AirPlay not working through wireless repeater

I just got an atv2.
When I'm connected to a wireless network just using a router AirPlay from an ipad2 works great. When I move to an adjacent building and use a range extender both devices connect to the Internet with not issue, but AirPlay is unavailable.

I am wondering if the wireless repeater is keeping you on the same subnet or if you are doing double nat.

im not sure what a double nat is but the subnet mask is identical on both devices.
