When airplaying from Macbook Air's iTunes to HomePod, iTunes freezes and MacBook Air loses all network connection. It can't be rebooted. I have to force restart the computer by pressing power button for a few seconds.

Not sure if anyone has experienced the same issue. I encountered this issue a couple of times when I first got my HomePod a couple of months ago, but now it fails every single time. I found a few posts from early 2010s with the similar issue, but doubt it would be the same bug.

I've had similar issues with my router, i had enabled (or disabled, it's been a while) WMM
every time i tried to airplay, the router rebooted

not sure if it's related or not, but might be the router. not sure why it locks the MacBook though.

try airfoil from rogue amoeba, it will let you airplay from you mac, and might help you narrow down the problem
it's a free trial, which is limited to a few minutes at a time, no need to purchase anything to try.

Thanks. Airfoil works great!

Router wasn't affected by it as other devices in the house can still connect to internet via WIFI.
I will use Airfoil for now. It's less elegant solution than built-in airplay, but it works at least.

You will find Airfoil a blessing when and if you stream multiple speakers as you can adjust latency in advanced speaker options and sync an entire house.
