I haven’t been playing much music in the house lately but I tried to today and it sure does suck now. I usually start the music from my iPhone snd AirPlay it to a few HomePods, OG and Minis. It will connect to the OGs right away but for my Mini in the kitchen it takes about 30 seconds before it fails and pops up an error. Then after trying again it connects right away. The fun really starts with volume controls. Using the main slider (the one that controls everything at once) is suuuuper laggy. Like 10 seconds laggy. I used to be able to slide my finger back and forth and it would adjust in real time. Now it’s like I have to adjust and let go, then 5-10 seconds later it kicks in.

HomePod AirPlay to HomePods is terrible now

Do you use the Homepods with an Apple TV. There have been issues with Airplay from iOS/Mac devices when the Homepods are set as audio outout for the ATV.
I do have my two OG HomePods as default audio for an Apple TV. I have found a solution for this. If I attempt to play the music from the Music app and then AirPlay it I have problems. But if I go to the Home app and select a HomePod to start a song and then add the other HomePods it works fine.
Ever since the latest ATV update my homepods do not work with the Apple TV at all. Once I set them up and attempt to play anything, the screen goes gray and says there is a problem and to switch the audio output. With iOS 15 on the ATV it all worked great. I even updated the Homepods to the 16.1 beta and they still suck.
