I'm using 4.2. What devices actually support Airplay right now? Just the airport express? I have an original AppleTV and Airport Extreme. No Airplay icon on my iPad when using iPod, video etc.

The airport express has optical output too as thats how i use mine. Or do you mean the DAC is better on the Apple TV?

The Apple TV does not have a DAC. It only has an optical output which is digital. DAC means "digital to analog converter". The Apple TV does not have a analog output.

But just to note, the Airport Express has a pretty nice Bur Brown DAC. Most a/v have similar quality DACs.

Nevermind. I now see that you were referring to the first Apple TV. It has a Realtek DAC who's output is limited to 16bit/44.1k. That is pretty subpar.

Print and AirPlay with 4.2 OS

After spending three hours over two days trying to make my ipad stream audio over to my ATV I find out there is a issue or a "Known Issue" trying this through my airport extreme. Apple will be calling me back tomorrow with an official reply. What is upsetting is I just finished reading in the Independent Guide Book to everything MAC that the MAC is a better product due to its longevity and Hardware and Software is able to stay useable throughout the years.
Guess the wrote the article before they elected to try and Stream using AirPlay.
What sucks is you need to upgrade to get the "Good Stuff"
And of course the much waited for "AirPrint" only works with HP wireless printers. Guess the much touted Airport extreme capabilities to hook any printer up to it and print wirelessly does not fit into the new Apple Business model of making money by making us poor souls upgrade to get the "GoodStuff"
