i have a older, 2006, macpro. im getting a new yamaha rx-a1020 receiver that has airplay. question is do iave have airplay on my older macpro. with the new receiver im going to be able to link it with my macpro and itunes.

Yes, I have a 1.1 2006 Mac Pro and it has airplay. Basically your Mac Pro has built in wireless and the OS X provides the airplay connectivity.
Coincidentally I have a Yamaha rxv 673 receiver and it works really well with airplay. Using my iphone as the remote it works a treat for music.

----------

Meant to add when your mac and Yamaha are connected to the same network the Yamaha will appear in the drop down airplay menu in iTunes.

thats what im going to bbe doing, using my iphone as the remote. should be fun to play with.

Not true. I have a 2010 iMac at work and it has the latest OS X on it, and it won't airplay because it doesn't have the proper processor architecture. I'm not saying your 1,1 won't airplay, i'm just saying it has more to do with than just having wireless and OS X. Now, you can install air parrot and that will do the trick!

so the aairplay icon wont show up unless i have a device that also has airplay, like the newer yamaha receivers, right

You can airplay to your Yamaha receiver from a macpro 1.1, but it's only music. No airplay mirroring and to watch movies the best way is to use Apple TV.

there a couple other options for watching movies on my samsung smart tv. and they work great. music is all i want.

It will be fine.

People get Airplay mirroring (the icon in the task bar) and Airplay from iTunes mixed up all the time. The latter is what your Mac and pretty much all wireless enabled Macs have and the receiver supports.

Airplay mirroring is only available on the newer (2012 and newer I think) Macs and that uses AppleTV.

got my new receiver, with airplay, turned it on, open itunes and there is the icon, whoa modern tech. really cool.
