Upstate NY . Was FL.
Batteries on my AirPod 2 are not keeping charge. They run out quickly. Apple website shows $49 battery service via mail in. But it doesn’t show how it can be done. The Apple rep via messages wanted the date that the AirPods 2 were purchased. When I informed him or her they said it wasn’t correct and that they couldn’t assist further without me going to an Apple Store. The nearest store is 100 miles away from me. Do I have any choices if I don’t have my exact purchase date available? Thanks.

Unless something has changed, I think you'll find that the batteries cannot be changed and Apple will probably give you a new pair. It might be worth the drive.

Did you buy them from Apple or buy them online?

I believe they were purchased from Best Buy. I just didn’t understand why the Apple page offers this type of service out of warranty yet chat support wants me to supply the exact date of purchase which I don’t know. I gave them a date of October 2021 but they said it was incorrect.

have you tried resetting them?
It can sometimes sort out batter monitoring issues, or fix what's causing them to drain so quick.
obviously it won't help with an age degraded battery

may not help, but it could, and it's fairly painless to do.

It sounds like they were trying to validate a warranty claim. I will guess that the agent didn't understand you were willing to pay $49 for out of warranty service. Perhaps you'll have luck speaking to a different agent and making that very clear.

That’s what I initially thought. However I sent them the screenshot together with a message that I wasn’t pursuing a warranty claim and that it was an out of warranty battery service. Still he or she persisted wanted a date and said that they couldn’t go further without it. Only option was to go to an Apple Store.
