So where can i buy gen 1 cheaper?

I’ll sell you mine! :)

I’m not so sure though maybe I wouldn’t even sell them I think you have to give them to a relative or something. Not sure if there’s a used market for these things. I never noticed ear wax on them or anything, But I sure as heck would not want to buy a used pair of headphones and when I sell my iPhones nobody ever complains that I don’t include the headphones in the deal.

So the answer is you will not find generation one cheaper because they sold out I am sure because generation one was awesome and generation two is just gonna be that much better. AirPods rule

Yep for sure. That tiny lipo battery must be 15mAh capacity at best! It is completely awesome tech. If anyone complains that 2 years down the road they are getting 60% of maximum capacity, they should just be grateful these things exist and thank Apple for pushing so hard to do it! This product really pushes the boundaries of what is presently producible I’d say. They are basically hand made perogies - taped and glued by girls with small hands.

Nah.
People should be straight up outraged with half or less battery in a year or so.

But I can't completely argue your point on the tech in general.
Thing is they could improve the bad points further, easily even.. but they choose not to for various reasons.

What bad points?

About the only thing I think they could be missing would be if they could do some kind of noise cancellation. But I already read here somewhere in the thread that noise cancellation is not ideal with the AirPod design because they don’t completely seal the ear canal but who knows for sure . They could do some pseudo-noise cancellation.

There are no bad points that I can find and I’ve used them a lot for the last year or however long they’ve been out

Sound quality is excellent maybe that something that they could improve on I guess but I don’t care really

I think these days we do expect our electronics like iPhones or computers to last five years or something but with these little teeny tiny high tech AirPod headphones I don’t think we should be expecting such things - we should be realistic

Here we go again typical tactics since Tim Cook took over. New product instead of new features and upgrade from previous generation. It becomes a new product for a much higher price. I used to remember when a new product comes meaning with new features and the same price as previous. Making the older product discontinued but supported for a couple more years. SMH!

The price didn't change. Even with new internals. Also, old Airpods will work in the new wireless case. Are you lost? Because none of your complaints make any sense here.

I've had mine for almost a year and a half and the battery life is still fine. I'm sure the batteries will eventually fail, as all batteries do - not a whole lot Apple can do about that.

So, what's the next step then. Eventually the H1 chip will follow the W1, and show up in Beats products too? Longer battery life, quicker pairing, lower latency, etc? As I like noise cancelling, I think I'll save my money for the next gen Beats Studio cans.

Ok thought of one thing. They could measure heart rate, and maybe serve as an electrical pole for more ECG triangulation. They could act as a hearing aid I guess.... what else?

Thing is, it will, ( I’m guessing a bit), take microsurgery skills to replace the batteries. But maybe I’m wrong and Apple has a rework plan for battery and general refurbishment. They are smart, and they probably do.

Why wouldn’t the just call the new chip W2? Why rename it?

It’s none of our beeswax. That jive is for spark chasers, not end users. To you and me it’s googlaphonic

Some of his replies are interesting. He says audio quality is improved as well as latency and range. This is now looking like a much more solid upgrade than many thought it was earlier in the day.

Surely it will be. Under promise - Over deliver. They read many books about how to run an electronics business at Apple, and they even had Steve Jobs as a mentor. So I’d bet the new thing they sell gonna be better than the old one

Too bad the batteries were not replaceable by unscrewing the bottom stems and replacing them with the same length or longer stems for extended battery life.

A little pricy for a disposable device. When the price point gets down to $29 per bud then it is a mute issue.
For now I'll buy the TWS i10 for ~$25

Maybe that chip will remain for he beats headphones. The H1 might be a new smaller design for future AR glasses with audio.

You can buy the cheapo versions right now in Shenzhen :) they might not work of course (in both ears I mean), but they have a built in FM radio! Innovation! Much better way to spend that hard earned $58.00? (Warm hint - get the real thing)

Source? Mine are 23 months old and last well over two hours on a charge.

I get a bit over 1.5 hours at max volume while cycling. Ordered first day they were available. I’m not gonna start a class action lawsuit. But hey... I’ll kick a rock in my backyard to see if there is a lwyer underneath!

I’d get more hours if I was not such a metal music fan. I’m at 11 volume a lot.

I think Macrumors’ own mock-up sums it up best

What? The new ones don’t fit in the case properly? :)

Yes, as much as I can be frustrated at the battery life degradation, they must be the headphones I've used the most over 18 months in any period of my life. You can probably get decent alternatives from other brands now but when I look at their reliability, cost, warranty, replacement options they rarely seem a better option. Apple really pushed the market here and have to give them credit.

Any updates to the AirPods are welcomed.

However, I’m confused on where this H1 chip is? In the battery case or airpods themselves?

It’s H for Huawei. Orbital mind control lasers. You’ll find yourself wanting to watch CNN :)

Yep. Only Sony Walkman II had me wearing headphones more than this. I guess that’s why am posting so much about these stupid headphones they really are life-changing in some little ways

Handsfree Siri... Another "feature" to disable.

And you can. But when I come home from my bicycle ride I think it might be better to use the headphones hands-free Siri than having to lift my wrist up when I’m really tired in the desert heat to get the right garage door to open. So I don’t know for sure but maybe it’s good. I can also shout at my iPhone. It’s kind of crazy to think how many computers I am carrying with me when I go for 50 KM bike ride

SIRI TURN THE VOLUME HIGHER
SIRI REPLY TO THE MESSAGE WITH LOL
SIRI WHAT TIME IS IT

I don't have enough "courage" to do this in public.

Haha. True enough. With all the wind blowing Siri screws up so many times I end up swearing at it actually. But overall it’s useful still. And anybody who laughs at me should give their head a shake - I get to ride my bike to burn blubber and screw around all day every day :)

More battery time was reason enough for me... wireless charging case is the bonus. I ordered a pair to replace my gen 1s. Will pass them down to the wife most likely.
