I don’t have my old AirPods here but from memory I can’t tell if there are any difference. Honestly I feel that they sound about the same.

With the firmware update for AirPods they sound the same to me. Prior to the firmware AirPods 2 sounded louder.

Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) said in his video Apple told him the sound is identical.

/thread :D
Apple reps have been known to be wrong; for example one told AppleInsider there was only one Thunderbolt 3 chip in the new mini when there are actually two. I’m sure someone will test them properly, with a dummy head.

Apple has confirmed that nothing changed on the sound quality front.
Believe me - if ANYTHING was better (like sound quality) to help justify new purchases, they'd be talking be about it - worry not.

People are hearing things on the forum..

Maybe hearing the sound of "cha-ching" as two hundy goes out the door for a new set of AP?

Oddly, I find that the gen 1 sounds significantly brighter. The gen 2 to me sounds like it has a better low end but at the cost of sounding muddy.

They sound a little better to me... but not significantly. The audio quality of v1, especially for talking (phone calls) was pretty good.

No option for Gen 1 sounds better? I think they do, at least for me. But that's for a particular reason. Gen 1 seems to have more treble, whereas Gen 2 is better balanced. But I have high frequency hearing loss, so I prefer Gen 1. I hear podcasts more crisply with Gen 1, and the difference is quite noticeable. Might use Gen 1 pods with the battery case I got from Gen 2.

My hearing is not very sensitive, so I'm not the best judge...but I can't tell any difference in the sound between my old AirPods and my new ones.

However, I am convinced AirPods 2 are slightly (microscopically) larger. The fit in my ear is not as comfortable. I'm hoping I will get used to it soon, or that it's all in my head!

If there was an increase in audio quality - I am sure Apple would have made sure to highlight it to entice upgrades.

Hello!

Lets do a little poll.

If you owned AirPods 1st Gen and upgraded....
Same old same old. Because the 1st gen don't fit my ears well, if I take my two index fingersand push them deeper into my head suddenly I can hear an extra octave of bass. Since the form factor of the second gen. is identical the same thing is true. Apple's "one size fits all" design philosophy really bites it. As the kids used to say, Powerbeats Pro rules, AirPod drools.
