hello all,

I absolutely hated the new Airpods 4 with noise canceling. The noise canceling feature feels like air is being sucked out of my ears even when the feature is disabled. I returned them and bought myself the the cheaper Airpods 4 but unfortunately learned that the case is not MagSafe (I want that feature). I had to go back to the Airpods 3 to get the wireless charging - however, I now don't have USB-C ...womp womp!

What a shame as I love my 4s with ANC. I am coming form the 3s and the 4s with ANC fit so much better and the ANC works way better than I ever thought it would. I can not do the sealed ear canal thing so the 4s were a great improvement for me.

I would really like an unbiased, qualified take on these... which is incredibly hard with Apple products, but still.

The AP4ANC does seem like a fast track to hearing damage.

Why is that? One of the good things about ANC is it allows you to listen to music at lower levels. ANC generates sound 180 degrees out of phase with the offending noise, thus reducing the noise sound level at the eardrums.

OP: Air being sucked out of the ears with ANC turned off is pretty strange. I don't understand the mechanism that produces this feeling.

I personally didn't like the AP4, and sent them back. But I didn't think of them being dangerous.

LOL! What did you say? I can’t hear you!

It would, if the external sound wasn't also coming through completely unfiltered to your ears and there wasn't a response time for the ANC to work. This honestly seems a very hubristic release to me.

This would be true for someone foolish enough to wear the AP4 for hearing protection, something the AP4 was not designed to do.

Neither of the AirPods 4 have the MagSafe case charging feature.

They work with Apple Watch charging puck now as the case is too small for MagSafe and it still attaches magnetically. I actually prefer it

You might try them again at some point

I had the same feeling with my first set and I returned them and bought another pair from Costco and it has been much better for some reason

How? You would risk damaging your hearing more with a pair of AirPods 2-3 where you would need to overcome the external noise by increasing the volume, so AP4+ANC should actually preserve your hearing.

Just to clarify, they can't do Magsafe charging because of how small the case is but you can still charge it with Qi, and the watch charger just fine.
