These new AirPods shouldn’t exist. The “Pro” moniker is stupid, and yet everyone accepts it. As someone with a marketing degree, the ruse continues.

Why not?

What model do you recommend for those who dislike ear-tips and don't want noise cancelling?

The third-generation AirPods are rumored to adopt a similar design to the current AirPods Pro, with shorter stems and silicone ear tips for a customizable fit.
Stop saying this. When was the last rumor that said the regular AirPods were going to adopt silicone tips? The render in your own article doesn't even show them.

I wonder why these renderings have all but one proximity sensor photoshopped out.

They weren't photoshopped out when they were previously shared on a grey background... weird!

I wonder if they turned out not to be "renderings" but "stolen marketing material"...

Can it really be that difficult to put noise cancellation in any AirPods you sell? I mean, all the hard design work and chippery has already been done. What’s the issue?

I imagine there’s patent licensing fees to pay to nebulous third parties, but I don’t suppose they amount to much in the grand scheme of things.

Or is it deliberate market segregation, like the high end camera market? Allegedly, some camera manufacturers incorporate top-of-the range chips in prosumer equipment, but deliberately degrade capability so they can maintain a premium price in the pro market. Which all sounds very dodgy to me.
It’s market segmentation, of course. Every company does it.

Huh, they were originally because I made a comment on that article too.

I'm the one who added the green background; I used the image we originally had in place, but I guess someone else found a better quality one. I'll probably swap this image out too.

Just don't know why they were removed in the first place. And not all of them. Maybe the sensors phase out of existence based on angle.

My 2nd-gen AirPods are getting less reliable (mics have basically gone out; and my devices don’t connect to them as quickly as they used to) so I’m likely getting a new set.

Really hoping there’s an option without the silicone/plug tips. I really like the way the original AirPods feel — I can wear them all day and night without any discomfort.

Mass production of the third-generation AirPods will kick off in August, according to a new report from Nikkei Asia. They will reportedly join a number of other products such as the iPhone 13 lineup and redesigned MacBook Pro models as launches coming before the end of the year.

Renderings of rumored third-generation AirPods design

Rumored launch dates for the third-generation AirPods have varied significantly over the past year, with some having pointed to a launch in the first half of 2021 that obviously failed to come to fruition while others indicated that a second-half launch was more likely.

With mass production kicking off next month, a launch could come as soon as September alongside the new iPhones, although Apple could certainly still wait to launch them alongside some other products later in the year.

The third-generation AirPods are rumored to adopt a similar design to the current AirPods Pro, with shorter stems and silicone ear tips for a customizable fit. They would, however, lack some of the advanced features of the AirPods Pro such as Active Noise Cancellation.

The AirPods Pro are also rumored to be seeing an update with the removal of the stems entirely, which could result in a design similar to that of the recently launched Beats Studio Buds. The second-generation AirPods Pro debut isn't rumored to be happening until the first half of 2022, however.

Having all versions of these, I still fall back to AirPods 2 most of the time. I finally found a pair of ear tips that work for me [SpinFit] not sponsored, but these make my pros usable. Look forward to seeing the new version. Maybe they will add larger drivers like the new beats at 13mm would be amazing.

Yeah i would also be fine with basically a spec bump.

I've got the APP and I'm fine with the ANC but probably don't need it. Battery performance (for me) is fine. No airtag needed. I like the stem as is and the stem touch control as is. Audio performance for high and mid are excellent. Bass is good but a better bass performance would be welcomed. I'd like them to auto switch to ATV but I suspect that is an ATV/TVOS thing. Watched Earth an Night on ATV+ (when it was still freebie). What an amazing sound (background crickets to the growl of big cats) through the APs.

On the bass, I've found even the ear fit test to be not quite ideal. A absolute perfect fit notably improves bass performance. I order a set of tips and can use the next to large and large - both pass the fit test. But the large give better bass performance. So it would be great if they could (somehow) improve tip seal performance.

Hi-res release in Apple Music made me to switch to wired IEMs after my OG Airpods died. Even got for it portable DAC. Got Fiio FH5 but returned them, even though Apple dongle was all needed to power them. It was difficult to maintain good sealing and had weaker bass than airpods sitting outside my ear canal.

Now thinking about getting airpods pro but holding out for airpods 3 or AP2, leaning toward latter. Heard from my work colleagues AP doesnt sound too great with ANC.

I will probably end up buying planar magnetic IEMs Tin Hifi P1 while I wait for Airpods Pro 2.

Is there no noise canceling?
There are more sophisticated earphones in Japan, so it may be entertainment if you buy Apple products.
Most consumers here don’t really care about hi-fi, there is very small minority. There is plenty of Chi-fi wirh easy return policy on Amazon or other online outlets but no audio stores here to audition. Some are great and some are garbage.
