As per the title indicates this is about the Automatic Switching feature coming to the Airpods with iOS14 and MacOS Big Sur.

Has anyone managed to try this feature? I can't seem to get it to work.

I’ve opened a similar topic a few days ago. It seems that the feature isn’t available yet in the beta versions of iOS and iPadOS (so probably neither for macOS)

I have both iOS 14 and Big Sur, and no, my AirPods are not automatically switching between them. Also, Live Listen seems to be disabled as well.

My AirPods went downhill in B4, won’t automatically connect back to the device they were last paired to. Waiting to see what Apple say.

I'm just confused how it will work. How do you think it will know what we want to hear sound out of? Maybe it's just for calls?

if you have your AirPods on and press play on any device it will play music through the AirPods. Not sure what happens if you press play on two devices at the same time though

Yeah, I guess that's what I was confused about... or what if I had music playing on my phone, but was working on my computer and a YouTube video was playing for example? Or, maybe a Zoom meeting on the computer... There can be endless possibilities of how one would think it might work...

Maybe it's only for music and calls -- something Apple could easily control. Third party, maybe not so much.

The only thing I hope is apple not locking these features down to devices with U1 chip only, though given Apples track records, I seriously doubt it.

They have stated that they are aware of the issue and have a fix coming.

LOL: I need to check who I am responding to; you already know this!

I wonder how they expect to get input on how it works if they don’t make it available to beta testers.

Really hoping this is not one of those features that’s missing by the release and then never make it.
I guess it is not active because it only works well if all your devices are capable of doing it, and right now in beta phase it probably would cause more confusion.

It’s not active as Apple haven’t released the firmware yet. Possibly that it’s not something that they need Beta testing for, like spatial audio, as they do not impact on developers or iOS 14 usage generally.
