I have the first gen Airpods, about 18 months old, and over the past few months I noticed that I am getting a low battery warning on the left airpod, while the right one still has 20% more power. When the left one dies, the right one sitll plays for over an hour.

Can Apple do something about this, even outside of warranty? I understand battery capacity does diminish over time, but one is clearly much worse than the other, and the whole experience suffers shortening the listening time to roughly 3 hours.

These were always used as a pair, and put away in the charging case at the same time.

Apple does have a battery replacement program for Airpods. Just take them in to the Apple store

Ah, you're right. Though its $65 per airpod in Canada. That's $130 +tax if I wanted to replace them both, because if I just replace one, the sound quality might differ, and now the old one will have significantly less charge.

Oh well. I might as well and see what the new ones will be like.

I experienced this with my first AirPods. The battery started to get imbalanced. Usually it was the one that I used as the microphone. The battery also started to get shorter and shorter battery life. I replaced them with new ones.
