Why did Apple introduce the problem (removal of headphone jack) before being in a position to offer the solution?

They did offer a solution, lightening jack headphones as well as the ability to use Bluetooth headphones. They are just delayed on the release of AirPods. Its not like you don't have options while waiting for the AirPods release.

Of course they're not vapourware. Do you really think there's any chance they won't be released? They're just delayed by a few weeks.

I do wish people would take a breath before creating inflammatory threads like this one.

They're not vapourware. There is a difference between cancelled and delayed. Whilst not ideal for the consumer it's better for them to wait until they're ready then rush them out with issues or release them when they can't offer them in sufficient quantities.

'Delayed' with no confirmed release date is vapourware in my book.
Furthermore, the product should have been ready before Apple was willing to release an headphone jack-less iPhone to market.
Like I said, if you are going to be so bold as to introduce a problem 'for the good of all of us', you better damn well make sure the solution is ready and accessible.

This is the Apple of Tim Cook. It's so sad what is happening to them.

No offense, but you really seem to be over-reacting. Its not like the phone is unusable, there are headphone solutions. You can use the lightening jack headphones or any bluetooth headphones (which is what I'm doing for now). It stinks that they are delayed but the world isn't ending, the phone isn't unusable.

Then your definition of vapourware is wrong. As mentioned you're overreacting. There are options and solutions out there both wireless and wired. Products get delayed all the time. It's a fact of life. It's not the end of the world.

Talk about first world problems and all.

Saying you're aiming to release late October, and it being the 31st, and them announcing it is delayed .. doesn't really justify calling it vaporware. It's not like you've invested money into a product on kickstarter with the weekly promise it's out next week, and then next week, and then next week ..

Yes it IS a first world problem, however it is a totally relevant subject for this particular forum.
Furthermore at no point did I claim it was the "end of the world", however I was merely making the point that if Apple went out of their way to do something as controversial as remove the headphone jack, respond to critics with talk of a wireless future and "courage" yet don't actually have a solution (product) available for customers, nor even have an indicative release date, that to me is vapourware.

    It's exactly the same thing!
Tell me this then.. when can we expect the airpods?
Answer - we have no idea.

It time to let this topic go, there is no path to resolving this for you other than the release of AirPods.

So your mom telling you there's gonna be dinner at 5pm tonight, and you show up shouting VAPORWARE, because she's an hour late because she's making you tatertots instead of a steak? Common now.

Ha Ha! Good analogy. However - if my Mom is going to be late giving me dinner (sure takes me back several years lol), she'll most likely give me an ETA, it won't be a case of 'you'll get dinner - at some point, some day. soon.'
Jokes aside my only point is that I find it disturbing that Apple made the decision to remove the jack before figuring out the AirPods. There should be no 'issues' with them at this stage. And this is typical of Tim Cook's running of the company.
Seriously - Steve would not have accepted any delay.

There it is. I knew it would come to that eventually based on the whiney tone of the posts.

A product that multiple people have done hands on reviews for can hardly be called vaporware.

Apple removed the headphone jack but they also provided wired headphones and there is a really large market of wireless headphones out there we don't need the Airpods to be able to use the phone. They are delayed, you can be disappointed that they are delayed but to pretend like Apple has done something wrong because of the delay is just silly.

No it's not the same thing. The sooner you come to accept that the better.

Im on my phone so can't copy and paste but have a look at the definition in the above link. It's hardly the same thing.

I'm sorry, was there something about the other 500000000 bluetooth options that suddenly stopped working?

You make good points, but completely ruin your credibility by declaring it to be vaporware. Vaporware is different, as so many above have pointed out. Your insistence on using the term incorrectly is really taking away from the broader point, that Apple should have had these ready to sell on the day the iPhone 7 launched.

It's called the convenience of the W1 chip which sold me and many others on the removal of the jack
    --- Post Merged, Oct 31, 2016 ---
Fair enough. I'll use it in this case as a mere figure of speech then, because clearly the product wasn't finished at the time it was announced
    --- Post Merged, Oct 31, 2016 ---
I stand by my comment that such a delay would not happen under Steve's watch. He'd most likely delay the entire iPhone 7 release if no Apple wireless solution was ready

That's great, the Airpods are the only thing that are on my "must buy day one" list this year (all my other gear is 2015). I'm 25 (a kid, basically) and have this basic skill called "delayed gratification"....what's your excuse?

Oh you are one of those - Apple can do no wrong.

I am just as much a fan as others here but the way Cook has been running Apple has been terrible.
This is not a matter of patience, there is no excuse - Airpods should have been available on day one or the product least should have been figured out and finished.

Granted using the term 'vapourware' was a gross exaggeration , but my criticism remains.

Apple can do no wrong? Really?

Consumerism has turned people into petulant children.

Wait a couple of weeks and be done with it. End of story.

Says the guy who seems to think that Steve Jobs was always perfect... o_O

Here's a quick list of some products that Steve Jobs proudly demo'ed before they were done, and then missed the release date:

Feb 2007 -- "Apple Inc. said it delayed the launch of its Apple TV video-streaming product until March, but the company would not explain why. The Cupertino, Calif., company had said in January that the $299 set-top box would be available this month."

April 2007 -- "Apple has delayed the release of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard several months from it’s originally scheduled date of June 2007 to October 2007. The statement released by Apple says that the iPhone has distracted the operating system development team, and that the original deadline is no longer obtainable."

April 2011 -- "Apple will release the white version of the iPhone 4 today, almost ten months after originally planned."

Says the person taking the time to post on a consumer electronics company accessory message board.

This board isn't for deep and meaningful philosophic conversations about
Life, it's to discuss consumer electronics accessories!

As for waiting a couple of weeks? Did Apple confirm that? If so I'll gladly shut up.

Starting to sweat a bit following this news. I'm heading abroad until January in a couple of weeks. Ideally I'd like to have a pair of BeatsX to link with my new iPhone before going...
