Hi, I bought the Airpods yesterday. What app do you use for music. I want the best quality so what I should choose? Apple Music or Spotify?
Thx

Both can provide ok quality. If you want best quality, go tidal, or buy hires music from sites like mora or e-onkyo. However, the AirPods likely could not let you enjoy the full potential of those hires music.
So, in short, both are good in terms of quality. Choose one based on your taste and library preference.

As long as you disable Spotify's 'normalisation' setting, then they should both sound very similar.

To my ears though, I think Apple Music sounds a bit fuller through the Airpods.

AirPods aren’t really suitable for the “best” sound possible. Get a Bose QC35 or a ATH M50X.

And subscribe to Tidal.

Is the Tidal sound quality something that's very noticeable with normal headphones/speakers (in my case AirPods, Beats Studio 3, MBP speakers and soon HomePod) and in everyday situations? I know that their selling point is lossless audio, but from what I have heard, Apple Music/Spotify both seem to have the better app on both Mac and iOS, the better/larger music library, much better interface, discovery tools, curated playlists, offline/library functionality (I love the easy of the iCloud Music Library) and just about everything else.

If the better sound quality is very noticeable then that would be a big upside for me personally, but I'm not sure if it's big enough of an upside to get over all the other shortcomings.

Airpods and "best quality" are opposite, Airpods are great for their convenience and wireless functionality, not for superb audio quality.

pretty sure OP is asking best sound quality difference from Apple Music to Spotify and not air pods being the best sound quality on the market. could be wrong though

You won’t notice the sound quality without proper equipments. In your case either Spotify or Apple Music will be fine.

I think the issue is when you use AirPods for music, “best” sound quality is pointless.

depends how loud you really want your music. Air pods are perfectly good for music listening certainly in the gym. At home I use my beats solo3 which is certainly loud enough for when I want louder sound and then I also have the homepod.

I value my long term hearing so I certainly wouldn't want it much louder than what I listen to.

True but I'm just saying you aren't going to notice the difference with just airpods

By best sound quality I don’t mean loudness.

Ok alright, thanks. So for the average AirPods, HomePod etc.-user there is pretty much zero advantage in using Tidal? What would be the (minimum) equipment needed where the better sound quality of Tidal actually becomes noticeable?

Monitoring headsets. ATH M50X to begin with.
