Just fiddling around with the case, laying it on the table & thinking with a slight redesign it may work as an iPhone stand.

It already works as one, albeit at a low angle...

But with the way it sits, upside down, with the lid open, it creates a perfect reading angle...

Issue being is the case is so light & slippery + the 'backrest' part of the stand isn't long enough to support an iPhone 6S in portrait mode...

But in landscape mode it may work. Only issues being the slippery surface of the case &, over time, the stress on the case hinge...

Anyway, just a bit of a light-bulb moment....that pretty much fails. But there's potential! ;)
 
Interesting concept. As you noted, the only downside and concern is the weight from the iPhone on the battery charger cover hinge. Also, the plastic case would likely slip on hard surfaces, where as you are using yours on a cloth like fabric, which helps with traction on keep the Airpod battery case from Slipping.
