AirPods (Gen 1) Problems

I have the AirPods Gen 1 and I was wondering is anyone encountering that the pods now keep dropping connections when in use even though I tried to re-pair them over and over again and also the battery life of it is ridiculously low now after only about 1.5 years of use. Obviously there is no more warranty for it and fixing them cost as much a new pair.

Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as I am and now I am unsure if I should continue to purchase the AirPod 2
 
Have you tried resetting them by holding down the button on the back of the case until the light blinks orange a few times?
