I've decided these aren't for me and ordered the Powerbeats 3 instead. But I'll be interested in hearing how people like them. I guess the fact they are basically wireless versions of the EarPods kind of makes me less enthusiastic, EarPods aren't my favorite, I like in-ear better. The Powerbeats are now in-ear with this new version, and still have the w1 chip, so best of both worlds for me.

Weren't Powerbeats always in-ear?

Sorry if this has been covered before but are there any early reviews on the AirPods volume?

Ideally, I'm hoping they can go louder than the current wired version.

Credit cards were charged last night around 6 pst. I wonder if they are shopping early. As they are in retail stores on Monday maybe Christmas comes early?

Reviews, that I have seen and read, state that the Airpods can go louder.

That will help outdoors or noisy environments and could be damaging to hearing.

Adjusting the volume on the AW is very useful.

Here you go.

Sound quality is more or less the same. Some say it's a little better than the EarPods, but I think it would be negligible.

Apple's AirPods are now available to order from the company's online store for $159.00, following weeks of speculation on exactly when the wireless headphones would launch. Originally, the AirPods were going to debut in "late October," but Apple delayed the launch for unspecified reasons.

In the official press release, Apple mentioned that the AirPods will begin arriving at Apple retail stores, Apple Authorized Resellers and select carriers beginning sometime next week. Shipment will begin in "limited quantities" at launch, and Apple encourages customers to continue checking its online store for updates on availability and shipping estimates.

Now, users can order the Bluetooth-enabled headphones, which provide up to 5 hours of music playback and high-quality sound through a "seamless and automatic connection" between the AirPods and an iPhone. To charge the AirPods, the included travel case doubles as a charging station that provides up to 24 hours of battery life for the headphones.
The new W1 chip inside the AirPods allows for seamless connection with devices in Apple's ecosystem, so that they connect instantly whenever the rechargeable battery case is flipped open near an iOS device. When in the user's ears, the AirPods "know when you are listening" and will subsequently pause music when they're taken out of an ear. Playback controls are left to Siri-enabled voice commands, which are brought up by double-tapping on the buds.

Included with the AirPods is a Lightning cable used to charge the carrying case, and the headphones require Apple devices running iOS 10, watchOS 3 or macOS Sierra. Buy your own AirPods now at Apple.com for $159.00. Deliveries are currently estimated to begin arriving on December 21 in the United States.

Update 7:16 AM: Delivery estimates in the U.S. have slipped to December 29.

Update 7:30 AM: Delivery estimates in the U.S. have now slipped to "4 weeks."

My delivery date was changed from Dec 21 to 20!! Thanks, Apple!!

Well, the opinions I have posited so far are based on the items design, which is clearly visible. I feel they look laughably ridiculous. I don't need to use them to ascertain this.

I go further in my posts to say I will wait to see what users say about them, functionality-wise. So I have not formed an opinion one way or the other regarding functionality.

Your post seems like yet another knee-jerk reaction in defense of Apple.

"the slippery hard plastic will slide right out of sweaty ears" seems like an opinion on the AirPods functionality, but okay.

How was I defending Apple at all in my post, much less in a "knee-jerk" way...?

Stopped by my local Apple Store 5 minutes before they opened this morning. There was a line of about 12-15 people. I was able to snag a pair and was on my way 15 minutes later. Cancelled my on-line order with a delivery date of Jan 12th. Now the real question is can I hold out till Christmas to open?

My delivery for 12/21 was updated to today and mine are out on a truck for delivery. I am opening them as soon as they come in the door.

Lucky man. There was only one Apple store in my local area that got any out of the 3 that are within a 15 mile radius of me and they sold out immediately. Oh well.

I'm not sure what in the way of stock stores received. By the time I left, there were maybe 2 left on the shelves. And that was within the first 15 minutes of store opening w/ close to 15 people there to buy. Of the 15 people, maybe 3 purchased 2 sets.

Canceled my online order. Picked up a pair in the store today. I got the last pair before they were sold out.
