I really wonder who this fiasco with the AirPod headphones will force Apple to admit that removing the headphone jack was a bad idea to start with. It would not surprise me at all the 2017 model iPhone models bring back the 3.5 mm headphone jack due to customer demand.

OK.

I'm sticking with the standard color.

For now.

Wait until you see the manufacturing video with Ives and Phil puts his take one the new color. You will be pre-ordering at least two units. The killer feature is they will have a higher volume.

Makes me wonder if the delay was to get a jet black model ready for launch with the white.

In all seriousness I think it is software tweaks. As far as I know once they go out there will be no way to update the firmware on these things easily. Can somebody correct me if I am wrong but can Apple push an OTA update to these? If not they have to get it right as they don't have another opportunity to do so.

The couple of tech reviewers I pay attention to who have pre-release ones, say they've jumped, danced, and run around quite a bit while wearing the AirPods and have had zero problems with them falling out. I'd wait for actual reviews before putting too much effort into trying to fix a problem that might not exist. Certainly third-party companies will made attachments, but that doesn't mean such things are necessary.

I've heard the same thing. But since this is one size fits all, I'm worried a bit about fit for me. My user name is Tall Man and it is descriptive. I've got larger than average ears and the EarPods might not wedge in as well in my ears as they will in normal sized people.

Also, frankly, I think they look a little weird without a strap coming off of them. Maybe they will be so common in two months that I won't think they are weird looking. But right now they make me think of a bluetooth headphone, which I think is a weird thing to walk around wearing when one isn't actually on a phone call.

I don't think you completely understand the concept of "wireless" airpods. Perhaps the beats X earphones might be a better alternative for you.

They might. But partly I want the really good microphone. I'm guessing the AirPods are going to be my conference call headphones as well as my listening to podcast headphones. I'm not sure if BeatsX has as good a set of microphones.

I'm going to get the AirPods. I'm sure of that. I just might end up adding some customization to them.

You may be correct. And no one knows if the W1 chip in any of the headphones can be field updated.

I'm curious is there is any delay buffer.
In many wireless headphones there is a delay from sound creation to hearing.
For games and music overdubbing, this would be ideal as long as there is no delay.

Doubt it. For one, the iPhone 7 is still selling like hot cakes. Second, you notice how most, if not all the complaints is coming from forums like this. Outside, criticism from consumers has been non-existent. Third, there are already plenty of other Bluetooth headphones out there.

The transition has been a little rough, but we will look back at this day many years from today and laugh that we even made a fuss over it. It reminds me of the time when Apple staggered the release of iCloud Photo Library for iOS and the Mac. Quite inconvenient for users then, photos stored on iOS devices that way could not be accessed on the Mac, but fast forward to today and that problem is but a distant memory.

As far as the iPhone is concerned, the headphone is done and never coming back.

I don't see enough backlash to get Apple to budge on this one. Who exactly is complaining about it anymore? Even this site seems to have mellowed out an accepted them. When Apple removed the FireWire port on the MacBook, the outcry was sustained until Apple restored it. This has been oddly quiet.

Selling like hot cakes huh? Based on what? Most of the articles I've read suggests the 7 has reached its peak and will not be in decline through next year's phone. The fact Apple has had supply constraints and struggles to meet demand is irrelevant to the size of the demand. I realize you're are an unbridled Apple enthusiast, but that doesn't mean a little objectivity isn't in order. Apple has withheld iPhone sales figures for the first time ever. The profits are in decline and Apple is providing lower guidance YoY for the first time in over a decade. Will it be enough to encourage Apple to bring back the headphone jack? Probably not. But let's not kid ourselves that the lack of it, and Apple's botched efforts to replace it with something better, won't affect a potential customer's decision to buy or not.

And why would anybody buy a pair of BT headphones without a W1 chip if they own more than one Apple device?

As for iCloud and Photos -- I still don't use Photos, because it's not there yet. What exactly are you basing this idea that Photos problems are a distant memory? It's still a mess, and doesn't address everyone's needs.

My point exactly. The general public doesn't seem to care. Or if they did, they sure don't care enough to raise a stink about it.

I am sceptical about those reports. We will eventually know when Apple releases their earnings for next quarter, but I am confident the iPhone will continue to do very well.

I am willing to bet that we will continue to see iPhone unit sales grow for the year of 2017, especially since the Note 7 is out of the picture (and the Pixel isn't available outside of the US).

And why would anybody buy a pair of BT headphones without a W1 chip if they own more than one Apple device?
People have been using Bluetooth headphones with their iPhones way back when it still had the headphone jack. The W1 chip promises to take out much of the pain of pairing and switching, but it doesn't automatically make all wireless headphones useless by comparison.

Existing wireless headphones still work the same as they did before, especially if you already own a pair.

It's a distant memory for me. I remember hoping onto iCloud Photo Library on day 1 with ios 8.X? and facing massive problems with glacial uploading speeds and not syncing properly with my iPad. And support for the Mac didn't come until a full 7 months later.

But that is all water under the bridge now. Today, I will say that I am very satisfied with the service. My photos sync automatically over wifi speedily enough and it's available on all my Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air, iMac, Apple TV). Besides having to pay $1 a month for the extra iCloud storage, I am not sure what else I might want to ask for.

why on earth would they do that?

wireless is the future. I won't use wired headphones again if i can avoid it.

Do you actually own a pair of the AirPods? How do you actually know they are just wireless EarPods? You have your opinion but trying to convince others without imperial evidence seems crazy to me
Have a look at all the marketing! It's focused on the design, features, wireless tech, sensors. Nothing about the driver the headphones use. Apple always recycle parts. They'll have the same driver as the earpods!

I love Apple products but a wireless version of something that's free for £159! Not cool!

Factual. Possibly. I have the EarPods which are essentially the same thing with a wire. So based on my own experience of using the EarPods, they would be the same but without wires. Same sound quality, lack of noise cancellation and slippy.
[doublepost=1479577189][/doublepost]

Seriously over priced wireless version of the FREE buds everyone gets with an iPhone (btw pair instantly and don't run out of power) £159 :) Enjoy!
Well, these are what reviews by people who have actually used the product have to say.

http://www.macworld.com/article/311...ey-stayed-in-my-ears-and-sounded-awesome.html

Not only did I dance, I headbanged. I shook my head side to side, I tossed my hair, I jogged in place, and I looked silly doing all of it. The AirPods stayed put, and they stayed loud. The music (more Sia, naturally) sounded full and lush and I couldn’t hear a single word anyone around me was saying, as if I was completely sealed off in a bubble of rock and roll. Pretty impressive.

We will know soon enough when the product hits the market.

Bluetooth overtook 3.5mm in revenue sales this year. Regardless of Apple, BT is the new standard and there is no squeezing that toothpaste back in the tube.

And you are attempting to pass off your gut feel as fact, despite admitting to having zero hands on experience with the product.

Point taken. Now we will just have to wait for the product to be released so we can actually test it out and see for ourselves.
The whole review reads like an advert.

They aren't noise isolation (look at the design) or noise cancelling (look at the specs) but in when tested the reviewer couldn't hear a thing around her?

".... and I couldn’t hear a single word anyone around me was saying, as if I was completely sealed off in a bubble of rock and roll"

Also, a review from wired.com https://www.wired.com/2016/09/review-apple-airpods/

quote: "Your $159 doesn’t buy you any better audio than you’ll get from the EarPods that come free in the box with your iPhone"

Without opening them up, I suspect they use the same driver tech as the free earpods!

I am not anti airpod. As I mentioned before. I like Apple products! (wearing an Apple watch now) If they were £49-£59 they would be worth a punt but for £159 they should have noise cancelling, noise isolation or better quality sound at least to justify £159 more than the included earpods.

It's not about the sound quality you say. Buy a pair of £8.50 bluetooth headphones from 7dayshop :) It's about the brand and hey, I got the latest airpods! nothing more.

How many times do you need to complain about noise isolation or cancelling? Apple never said they had that feature. Speaking for myself I have no problem with it. If this is your main complaint, don't try to convenience others that it's theirs.

Totally agree. All complainers in the forum-are like spoiled brats. They all need to grow up. Otherwise, their children are like them also.

I'd say this point is the most salient to the complaints I'm reading in this thread:

But, my friend, they do give you BT wireless capability. For me, that's the most important feature.

Yes, and there's an inherent sacrifice in sound quality for that technology. Nevertheless, what the reviews, and other forum members are stating, is that for the price, that's about all you're getting, along with Apple's proprietary W1 chip for easy pairing, and longer battery life.

But Apple charging more than everybody else is not unusual. So I don't really understand the complaint, especially since audio quality is subjective anyway.

Well I can agree with an additional excises price but other wireless EarPods currently available are not much cheaper and don't give the W1 chip features.
