Apple is accepting pre-orders for the AirPods Max 2 headphones that were introduced on March 16, with a purchase option now available on the Apple.com website.

In the U.S., Apple's online store lists a delivery timeframe of April 1 to April 3.

Priced at $549, the AirPods Max 2 feature the same design as the original AirPods Max, but Apple updated the over-ear headphones with an H2 chip that adds new capabilities already offered by other AirPods models.

The H2 chip delivers up to 1.5x better Active Noise Cancellation with computational audio algorithms that are better able to detect and mitigate outside sound. Real-time Live Translation is supported, and features like Adaptive Audio, Voice Isolation, Conversation Awareness, Loud Sound Reduction, and Personalized Volume are available.

Audio quality has improved with a new high dynamic range amplifier that offers more consistent bass, more natural-sounding mids and highs, and improved localization of instruments. Transparency Mode sounds more natural than before, and the Digital Crown on the AirPods Max can now be used as a camera shutter for the iPhone or iPad. Bluetooth has been upgraded to Bluetooth 5.3.

The AirPods Max 2 charge using USB-C and last for up to 20 hours in ANC mode before needing to be recharged. Like the prior-generation USB-C model, the AirPods Max 2 support 24-bit 48kHz lossless audio over USB-C, and ship with a Smart Case. Color options continue to include midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue.

I'm curious how the test results will be. I'm also curious how many of the headphones functions will be available also on Windows/Linux via USB-C and BT.

Enjoy your H2 upgrades, everyone. This gives me hope for an H2 upgrade to my Beats Fit Pro if I'm patient enough.

(Yes, BFP are workout headphones, but I see enough AirPods Max at the gym that it seems on topic 😉)

I have a lot of headphones, but none are from Apple. I'd consider getting one of these if they ever put an on/off power button on it, and find a more traditional way of storing them instead of the odd case they use.

I got April 1-3 delivery in Minnesota.
Nice, April 1st seems to be the release date despite Apple's phrasing of "early next month". I'd also expect most people to see delivery on the 1st or close to it with Apple's usual practice of underpromise and overdeliver on timelines.

Also, I found it interesting that order for store pickup isn't possible with this pre-order. Seems like stores won't have inventory until later after release? I like to do store pickup as much as possible thanks to bad experiences with UPS on previous Apple purchases.

I agree. I prefer store pick up. Now I’ll probably have to be home to receive them.

Still $150 more than Sony XM6's
The Sony XM6's have a retail price of $459.99. If you want to talk about finding them on sale thats a different topic but retail price is $459.99 so it's basically a 90 dollar difference, not 150.

I am very curious about these APM but my current ones are still alive and kicking (not to mention they have AppleCare). It will all come down to the review and physically trying them on in the apple store to get me to upgrade.

My question on these is, will it be easier to replace the batteries?

I have wanted to replace my AirPod pro 1’s for a while now, and I don’t really see the point in buying another set that’s destined for the bin as soon as the battery dies.
