Does the 3D audio effect work? Like when playing Call of Duty can you tell if someone is coming up from behind you or to the right or left? With my SteelSeries Arctis 7P that feature works great
I am highly interested in the surround sound with the AP Max. Did anyone compare them to the new Sony Pulse 3D Headset especially for gaming with the PS5? I don’t care that much about the mic, since there is one in the controller.

so if im reading correctly, there needs to be a TRRS 3.5mm to lightning for it to work with mic?
The £35 cable from Apple is just TRS and I have one on the way. I may order a cheap TRRS lightning to 3.5mm from Amazon to see if it works.

The only cable I can see there that has a trrs 3.5mm to lightning has an inline mic but that would probably be the 3.5mm plug end.

Bump

I have pulse 3D headset - anyone have experience with both?

If AirPod Max sound better I’ll take the pulse 3d

I tested the Pulse 3D. It's no different that the SteelSeries Arctis 7P I have. Same 3D audio feature, however the Steel Series are far more comfortable for me.

I’ve connected the AirPods Max via 3.5 mm adapter to my PS5 controller. The sound is great. Way better than the PS5 headset IMO but it should be. Don’t think you can use the microphone on the headset but instead must use the microphone on the controller.

Just to be sure its the 35$ cable right?
Because for me they don't work with the Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter which is kinda ****** on their part.

Yes they are the official Apple adapter that’s priced at $35. The adapter you used is only 1-way.

3d audio works well?

Yes, 3D audio works with these. The 3D audio works with every single headphone connected via USB or into the 3.5 jack on the controller.

From reviews, they say APM microphone doesn’t work with anything when wired.

Still not got mine so unaware.

It would be impossible for it to work since the pole necessary to transmit that data isn't on the cable apple sells.

for the ones that tested with apple's cable, using the mic on the controller is good? Can the other party here you ok?

The controller mic pics up noise around the house. At the end of the day I care but I don’t care what I sound like. I care more what the game sounds like and being able to hear them. Hopefully someone comes out with a 3 pole (TRRS) bi-directional cable

true, just don't want to be yelling if I do need to talk to friends in the party.

I was about to unpack Sony Pulse 3D headphones, but as I also got AirPods Max I wonder whether it make sense to keep Pulse 3D for PS5 or just return them. I tried the Pulse 3D at the shop and felt quite comfortable on my head but nothing to the comfort of mesh APM. I don't care about mic but 3D sound (spatial?) from PS5 would be definitely nice.

However having some cable dangling around does not sound like $549 "modern" solution...
To those of you who have both Pulse 3D and APM, what did you decide?

According to posters on Reddit, all of the fancy 3D audio processing is done by the PS5 itself and as long as you're using the AirPods Max connected to the controller by a cable then I think it really comes down to which pair of headphones you like the most. I don't have either product yet so can't confirm for myself.

I was also planning of buying the pulse 3D for my ps5 but I ordered the amp, so I’ll definitely use them for ps5. I don’t mind having a cable if that means more comfort and better sound!

But why go through the 3.5MM cable route? Wouldn't it be better to buy Bluetooth transmitter like Creative BT-W3 for PS5? According to this article, even 3D audio should work this way.

There’s a reason people don’t recommend using BT sound for video gaming. You lose a lot of sound. It would be better to go wired to the dualsense controller.
