Wow man, I don’t understand the barrage of downvotes your comment received.

Your comment was akin to pointing out constant complaints the likes of “I can’t believe Tesla’s latest car costs $70K, it should be $35K and I’ll buy it!!” (yet the damn thing is constantly out of stock). I totally agree with you, yes, they might be very expensive, and some Apple products are (sometimes beyond not useful): like a spec-out Mac Pro, the XDR display or the damb Mac Pro Wheels... if they are too expensive, don’t buy them? What’s going on with this specific product that has received so much price complaints echo-ing?
It's just the internet doing its things, I guess, and unfortunately Apple usually get the brunt of it since they are a famous brand (people love to drag down whoever they don't like).

Yeah it sounds like they move with ease in the ecosystem. Did you find the weight uncomfortable? I know that’s highly subjective but at this point user comments are all most of us will have to go on for awhile and it’s nice to get a range of different opinions.
They are not heavy to me, I'm used to wearing headphones all the time anyway, but they are kinda tight but I have a big head.

This is pretty funny. He is established tech blogger and is very reputable. At least look him up before you criticize. Jeez. Google is your friend.
Really? All that's coming up is his Twitter and his Android Police writers profile. Calling a big meh on his reputation tbf.

Also he's like what? 15?

I received my pair today. I tried my best to like them, I came up with every possible excuse to keep them. However, I just put them back in the box and I'm ready to ship them back to Apple. Although they sound AMAZING, it's hard to ignore the weight, after 45 mins you just want to take them off. Putting my XM4's back on felt like heaven.

Sorry Apple, I tried my best to like them, but I'll wait on the next iteration for sure. Also, it's stupid that you cannot use the lightning to 3.5mm adapter that came with the previous iPhones, you actually need to purchase their new lightning to 3.5mm cable. WTF.

After paying that much money for the headphones, I wonder how many owners will say the 'cheaper headphones are better?

I bought them. They are expensive. They have a lot of tech in them.

Sound quality? Music sounds really good but you won't get the full picture of what these things can do until you play a movie with these on.

Listen to Lord of the Rings or something with a lot of high end sound texture (through Apple TV 4K) and you will hear partially why these cost what they do.

In addition, the fact that they effortlessly work with and switch between my iPhone 12 Pro, my M1 Mac and my Apple TV 4k is very nice and is actually why I much prefer them vs Sonys or Bose wireless headphones.

Are they as good as comparably priced Sonys or Bose? I think so but they are a lot better than all the Beats headphones, they don't pop out of my ears easily like my AirPods Pro do (they are also a lot more comfortable over long periods than in-ear buds) and in the end I am not disappointed in the purchase. Is the "smart case" dumb? Yes. Should these have been cheaper? Meh, sure I would have preferred to pay $100 or $200 less but I'm gonna keep my pair and enjoy them.

But that’s the thing. I want the full picture of what they can do combined with a little apple magic and their Apple Music plan. Obviously we’re not getting it. Again very few but 600 dollar headsets to watch movies on their iPhone.

I think maybe this was priced 100 too much but I haven't had a chance to try them out. 450 sounds like an ok price since its 100 more than the top beats. I wonder how good the noise canceling is on them? If they can cancel out the noise of my "Surround Sound" baby they might be a must buy lol. The Bang & Olufsen headphones are nice but also priced way out of most peoples budget. I wonder if they are that good but i'm not a sound expert.

I find it hilarious that people are defending the weight of these and the ridiculous case by saying "Well these aren't meant for travel, they are meant for home use watching movies." WTF Are you talking about? Are we seriously living in a world where Apple releases WIRELESS noise cancelling headphones and people are claiming that they aren't meant for travel? You have got to be kidding me. Having noise cancelling headphones in my home is absolutely absurd.

I want to wear noise cancelling headphones in place where I actually want to cancel the noise, like in an airport, train, etc. I have never watched a movie in my home wearing headphones. But now I guess that's the main function of AirPods Max. I use my headphones for music in croweded places for long stretches of time sometimes and that's what I expect to get out of the Airpods Max.

Jeez what's next? Apple is going to release the Apple Car and people will claim its only meant to sit in the driveway.

This sweeping statement isn't really correct. Every headphone has a different frequency range and so every headphone will sound different when flat (i.e. no EQ). It is true that the producer will likely use a neutral speaker to shape the sound but it is not true that using EQ = not what the producer intended. EQ can do a couple of things: (i) it can address certain peaks, valleys or deficiencies in a headphone's frequency curve or (ii) it can allow a listener to customize sound to their personal preferences (or both).

Someone preferring to use EQ does not mean there is anything inherently wrong with the headphone. Equalizers are a staple of the audiophile community and are used on headphones that costs thousands of dollars. Now, if a headphone needs significant EQ to address it's limitations, then that surely can be a reflection of a poorly tuned headphone. However, a blanket statement that any given headphone should be heard "flat" is not true. Further, the mere fact that EQ is needed on a certain headphone does not mean the headphone is of lesser quality. All headphones have strengths and weaknesses and EQ is a tool that can be used to address them.
Thanks, appreciate the info.

Sounds odd as Apple specifically state it works in their support documentation. Maybe something needs an update?
Sounds odd ‘cause it’s not true. :) Nothing needs an update other than, maybe, the person that said it doesn’t work? I mean, I suppose THEIRS might not work due to any number of reasons. But, yeah, it works fine.

Hence why I started a thread in the AirPods forum wondering what Apple’s intention was with these. Because many aspects don’t seem conducive to use outside the home/travel yet they’re wireless with active noise cancelling which seems like something you wouldn’t necessarily need in your home. Also they’re priced like a low to mid end audiophile headphone but they have no aux jack; you have to buy an adapter for that. Plus true audiophiles are probably not listening to music over Bluetooth and aren’t interested in ‘intelligent sound’ or whatever Apple is calling their audio tech in this product. It’s kind of like one department at Apple wanted to make a high end headphone and another department said but it has to be wireless and have all these smart features. Jason Snell said he thinks these were priced to be able to discount but I doubt they’ll be on sale any time soon. New Apple Watches rarely go on sale. I can’t see them doing that with a niche product like this.

After using my Bose QC 35 II for a couple of months, I thought to myself that the sound wasn't much better than the 10 year old $60 Sennheiser headphones I had used previously. I then put on my Sennheiser and was shocked; I had gotten so used to my Bose I had forgotten how much better they were.

All that to say, I hope people could tell the difference between these Apple headphones and low tier headphones (I do realize your comparison is hyperbole)
I have the QC 35 also...they aren’t great besides the ANC, which I’d say is matched about 90% by the airpods pro. The only difference is likely the Bose are over ear and block more sound physically.

Bottom line is you will pay a lot for that last 10%. It’s true in TVs, cars, speakers, etc.

I challenge the average person to discern the difference in a world world picture of an OLED TV, QLED, and LED. Some people can tell, most can’t.

On the other hand, A Kia is 90% of a BMW in that it has 4 wheels and gets you from point A to point B. The Kia even has air conditioning, leather seats, Bluetooth and navigation...buts it’s still a Kia and I don’t want it. Others won’t care.

Do you have 90k twitter followers? Apparently anyone who criticizes Apple in this forum is an automatic fraud.
Please tell me you don’t think Twitter followers garner any sort of credibility. There are so many counter examples, I can’t begin to list them.

Thank you so much for the link. Im scared when I try them on I will love them, luckily or unfortunately the Apple store near me is practically on lock down, nothing to try on or even enter, its just a line for buying/picking up orders and another line for genius repairs (Is that normal?). Knowing classes are starting back up in January and the AirPod Pro's, as much as I love them can't cancel out baby when he's in his surround sound tirade so maybe just maybe these might be a solution. Still the price does shock me. Thanks again for the link.

If some people are complaining about the weight/pressure on their ears after only 40-45 mins, forget about wearing them on a flight across the Atlantic or Pacific and not regret the purchase. I can already see Tim talk on stage about how they made the AirPod Max 2nd gen or Series 2 lighter after “feedback” from our customers. It’s a shame because they look nice with the case being the exception and another thing to fix with the next generation AirPods Max.

Mine arrived today. The sound is very good. They’re pretty hefty. Either my neck will get stronger, or I’ll get shorter. The “case” is truly a useless novelty - but the intricate folding of the cardboard shipping box is amazing, considering it starts out as one sheet of cardboard. I played with that for quite a while. I’d love to watch the machine that cuts and folds them.

How do they make them lighter without going plastic?

This is comical beyond belief that you'd say this. People here criticize Apple's unreleased products that nobody has even tried or tested. They even criticize unannounced rumored Apple products, and you expect someone not to criticize some random tech blogger they've never heard of? lol
