I would have thought the embargo for reviews would have been lifted by now given pre-order tomorrow. Normally is it before or on the same day as pre-order?

I'm interested to hear what improvements to sound or ANC there are. The other features one would know from the APP3. But there's a vague reference to new amplifiers and I'd be interested to know what that means.

First lot of reviews are not trustworthy anyways - mainly people who will say anything to impress Apple in order to continue that relationship. I generally wait for the reviews after actual release - from buyers who have no affiliation with Apple.......

This is true. Ijustine, Brian Tong, they will never say anything critical about Apple and compromise that relationship. Mk8 has enough pull that he might. Most of the real feedback won’t be here until early April when more critical headphone reviewers like Soundguy, CNET and Rtings post their results.

You are both absolutely right. I'm just interested in hearing what they say though. In all honesty, Youtube reviews are a bit of an entertainment rather than info gathering I find. I have found that if you listen to them too literally - you end up buying everything!

looks like it's an April 1st release day but no lift on the review embargo! I'm assuming at this point that it will be next Monday or Tuesday.

It's probably better just to buy one and try it out and return if it doesn't meet your expectations. Sometimes reviews are biased based on their expectations and hype and not the true performance of the product.

Orders are opened up today, but cannot buy it from a store today. So I’ll stick with my failing first gen AirPods Max for now.

They are fine provided I don’t fold them flat.

When I do get them, you can trust my review as I’ve been scathingly critical over Apple more than a few times.

And you think you will not be biased, when you post like that ? 🙂

Embargo dates are usually counted backwards from product availability date, e.g. n-3. Pre-order dates don't play a role in this.

This encourages more time for reviewers do a thorough review, rather than a race to first video upload.

I’m not an influencer and I don’t rely on Apple to keep feeding me products. But if you think I’m going to negative review them based on that, then I’m not going to deter you from that.

The reviews are often done well ahead of time but the release is at the embargo date. See new car launches and reviews. They drive the pre-production model but the review goes out at a certain date.

For the new AirPods Max the key thing will be over the long term if they are more reliable and don’t have the well known failures of the current model with the connections between the earpieces. That’s something the normal reviewers won’t find out until they’ve had the headphones for a year.

I get the sense that the APM3 will quickly follow like how theres already an APP3+ on the way…

I can't wait for all the so called "Audiofiles" to give their specialist opinion how:

- terrible
- even worse
- no improvement
- still too expensive
- not really a "2" version

And the thing is there are improvements. Using new amplifiers, a new chipset, potentially new frequency response, that should all drive changes. But most reviewers won’t touch upon actual acoustic changes.

so I'm curious if it'll warrant an upgrade (fat chance).
I also recently got a Midnight pair of those, only had them for a very small time and returned them immediately in the original box. The case for them hadn't even been unwrapped from the paper they put around it.

It was within the 14 days they allow to return. I just said nothing wrong with them, just that there is the new ones launched, I'd prefer those instead. If they had announced them earlier I would have waited.

I'm just waiting now for them to reach the Apple stores rather than waiting for shipping.
