Hi guys,

I'm considering getting the Airpods Max - and a big part of my usage would be with the Apple TV.

I'm wondering how much of a "cinema" experience will it give me (keep in mind I'm not an audophile by any stretch and buying a proper surround set up is not an option) and will it be fine in relation to lip synching?

Thanks.

Its fine, but that type of use is also where all closed-back ANC headphones are going to be at their worst. All audio is a trade-off. Keeping sound out/in comes with drawbacks that kinda suck when you don’t need to keep sound out/in (like your typical home listening). Dialogue sounds closed off and unnatural. It’s something you get used to after a while, but maybe you don’t want to.

The rest of it is pretty good. You get a lot more depth with the added bass of headphones when compared with built-in tv speakers. Action movies have more pop. Sound gets anchored forward. Beyond the head tracking, the surround sound effect is okay. Two speakers just can’t ever be 5. In limited use, I’ve haven’t had lip syncing issues.

They’re good headphones, that’s just not their strongest area.

A good surround sound system would be best, a nice soundbar would be better, the APM sound pretty good, and TV speakers suck big time.

I will say though I used to live in an apartment and a townhome where you almost could never run a subwoofer, and in that situation, APM would have been a sweet trade-off.

Yeah, that's basically the situation. I live in an apartment on the second floor of an old house and there is an elderly woman living below me ? There's very little insulation here so I'm already using Airpod Pros to be considerate.
