AirPods, or any Beats head/earphones, are easy to connect to your MBP and is automatically added to the list of BlueTooth devices if you add to your iPhone. Literally the only time I ever need to use a 3.5mm jack these days is on an airplane.

I would choose Bluetooth earbuds like AirPods or even cheaper alternatives. My personal favorites are Jaybird lineup and they have the X4 for the MSRP of $130 (to be literal $129.99) or the tarah at $100. They last between 6 hours (tarah) to 8 hours ( X4) on one charge and has quick charge abilities. Now if you’re dead set on using Apple then I would suggest the beats X which can be found for under $100 at bestbuy as of a few days ago I saw them for around $85. I personally would just avoid the AirPods myself because they just don’t fit my ears, I think they sound horrible and I would prefer to use something more universal Incase I ever go with Android or PC ( currently an iPhone X and gaming pc). They work with them but you lose the functionality since an Android doesn’t use Siri of course.

What are AirPods will offer you, aside from the wireless freedom, is the convenience of technology with double tapping to activate Siri, one of my favorite features when you remove one of the AirPods, and the music will pause, And then you re-insert the AirPod back into your ear and the musical will resume. Super convenient to have. The battery life is excellent, the audio is loud enough and Crisp for my preferences, and the charging capabilities is excellent. 15 minutes of charging is equivalent to three hours of usage.

AirPods-going back to wired earbuds is an occasional necessity for me, and it’s very irritating. AirPods are one of the slickest Apple products of all time.

Sadly, after about a year and a half of everyday use, the battery life in the AirPods is substantially reduced. The case is fine though.

glad that you guys are enjoying the airpods. i understand the benefits of airpods, but these features do not matter to me, as I only want it to play music. it's also fine that the music dont pause.

This is why im hesitant about the airpods, especially considering that they will be a lot more expensive in the long term

You asked about AirPods and complained about having to carry 2 sets of earphones. I’m not sure what kind of information you are looking for. My AirPod battery is the same as when I purchased them over a year ago. I don’t have any problems with them. But yes, they are more expensive than free.

I find your reply very confusing. You asked this:

And I and another member listed the strong points about the AirPods, being that these are the strong considerations when purchasing them for there highlighted features, so if none of the features that I or the other member listed, the AirPods are _not_ for you at all.

sorry, i think i wasnt very clear in my original post (i actually typed quite a bit, but was afraid that noone will reply if my post was too long).

I use my earphones a lot. At work, im listening to music all the time, because we have a very open concept, so it can get very noisy around you. I also use my earphone when I commute and when im watching videos at home.

I never considered getting airpods, mainly because I worry that its battery life isnt sufficient for such heavy use. I also think that airpods will be very expensive in the long term because the heavy usage might cause battery to deteriorate quickly and need more frequent replacements.

Wired earphones have never been a problem until my laptop and my iphone uses two different plugs. This means I either have to carry two different earphones or get a dongle that apple no longer provide for free. I guess what Im asking is if the hassle of having carrying a dongle or two different earphones is worth getting airpods? And are you guys facing the problems I mentioned in para 3? If so, how do you guys get around it?

once again, apologies for the confusing question

Well sounds like you’ve made up your mind against getting the AirPods from the get go so your thread title should not have had AirPods as an option to begin with. You should have used “Wireless (No AirPods Please!) or Wired earphones”

Yes, you can use one Airpod separately if you want for listening to music, making calls, etc.

Apple replaced mine today for free....22 months after purchase.

If you have a warranty of one year & notice the battery depleting, take them in to an Apple store. They should help you out.

A new model of AirPods will probably be out within 6 months--my plan is to use the wired ones supplied with new Xs until specs/reviews are out. I picked up some EarBuddyz silicone earhooks which are cheap and really helpful.
