I'm considering getting a pair of AirPods Pro 2. One of the main uses would be using them for phone calls while driving.

I drive a lot and I like to call my elderly parents when driving, they have a hard time hearing me when I'm on the vehicles hands free mode. No problem when I'm holding the phone to my face or using speaker phone while holding the phone close.

I know the listening experience should be good with the Airpod pro 2's from my research but I'm concerned about the mic/call quality with road noise.

Anyone have experience with this?

I call my wife everyday on my way home from work using the Air Pods Pro 2. She has never complained of not hearing me well, although I admit she is not "elderly", so her hearing is pretty normal. I remember asking when I first got them how I sound and I'm pretty sure she responded with something along the lines of "uhh you sound fine". So yeah, I don't have first hand experience hearing another person with them in b/c she doesn't use them but seems to me they are...fine.

My only gripe is I can clearly hear the ANC decrease as soon as I start the call. Almost like they go into "half transparency" mode. Soon as I hang up, it's peace and quiet again but soon as I make a call I can clearly start hearing ambient noise. It's reallly annoying b/c my original AirPod Pros didn't do this.

If you are driving (eg, the phone is connected to your car via Bluetooth), that may be a safety feature so you would be able to hear horns, emergency vehicle sirens or other sounds and take appropriate action to avoid accidents etc.

You might want to check your local laws because driving while wearing headphones or earbuds is illegal in some states.

So I got the Airpods Pro 2 about 4 days ago and I'm very impressed. I've used them a lot, about 20-30 hours I'd say.

I'm told the audio quality on the other end while I'm driving is good and they stay in my ears very well so both of my main concerns have turned out to be non-issues.

What I wasn't expecting is how good the noise cancelling is, I've never had a pair of ear buds or head phones that were anywhere near this good. I didn't even know it was possible. It's great to be able to pop these in and escape the noise at work or wherever.

And for those times where you need to have situational awareness the transparency mode works amazing, letting you hear what is going on around you and the media your consuming both equally well.

So in short, no regrets with this purchase.

What is transparency mode?
