How can possibly it be easier to use?! It’s an endless annoyance just figuring out which end of the cable is which!

And why shouldn’t we be able to use the same cable to charge an iPhone or AirPods as we do for our iPads, MacBooks, and every other device out there? It doesn’t make any sense to have to use a different, inferior, proprietary plug just because it’s Apple.
I don't disagree, except to say we are in a transition period. Unless one expects a switch to happen across the board AT ONCE, reality usually is that these things phase in.

Yes, it would be nice if the AirPods Pro 2's case used USB-C instead. I'm not an insider, but my guess is that will soon be coming.

They are nice, but I don't get why I'm blocked from having a firmware upgrade from the factory version despite running the latest version of macOS, iPadOS and the latest STABLE version of iOS (v15.7) 💀

Come on Apple stop this nonsense and release the latest firmware !
My guess would be that the firmware update for AirPods must come through having iOS 16 on your device. They've really got AirPods locked down when it comes to firmware and updating.

There is something going on with the charging case, there is another thread about it. The pods last longer but the charging case doesn't last for crap.

I charged to 100% last night, and used the pods for 1 hour this morning. The case was down to 25% while the buds were still in my ears. I would ask what, since the pods were charged to 100% last night while in the case.

After putting them back into the case after 1 hr of use, the charging case in now at 50%. Thats completely ridiculous.

It's because if you lose or damage the lightning cable, you can't just use one of your existing USB-C cables from your iPad, MacBook, etc. You have to buy a new lightning cable (if you don't have a spare one), and usually that's an Apple-branded lightning cable. That means more $ for Apple. And if you ask Apple, less environmental waste figures into their explanation why they still use the lightning connector somehow :p

Still uses Lightning connection, alas.
That's all it needs.....it just charging

USB-C sucks as far as durability. And, after while when it loosens up and becomes intermittent, you have to replace the motherboard. My work MacBook Pro has 4 USB-C connectors. with only 3 usable because plugging and unplugging to to go to meeting as such, 1 of the has become intermittent and you need to wiggle the cable to make it work. just move on and use the next one, till none work and they have to buy a new computer.

And our cars. AirPods should be able to charge using one of those Tesla cables. People complain about needing a USB-C to Lightning adapter, but even that is cheaper and easier to carry on a plane than the car you need to adapt a Tesla Wall Connector to the AirPods…

It’s silly to have multiple standards…

In addition, I find the lightning connection to be easier to use (even in the dark when listening in bed) and more durable in general that USB-C.
Lightning is indeed much, much more durable than USB-C… also the point-of-failure on USB-C devices is the little tab that the plug slips "over" or "onto". This means that if there is a failure, it's the device that is broken, as opposed to lightning where if the tab breaks, it just means a broken cable.

I too look forward to our all-USB-C future, but I do wish that Apple had instead just handed over the license to the lightning design over to the USB Council that that had been adopted instead as the plug for the future…

I really don't think Apple keeping the Lightning connector around has money as a primary factor. I think part of the issue is changing the Lightning connector will likely receive a negative response from the general public, as they will no longer be able to use their Lightning cables or will have to buy adapters for various accessories. People were pissed going from 30-pin to Lightning, and Lightning was an objectively better connector. People called it a cash grab then, and I'm sure plenty will do the same thing when they switch to USB-C. Another issue is that USB-C, especially for mobile devices, was kind of a mess for a while. I remember back in 2018 where you'd have to look online where some Google Engineer was independently testing USB-C cables to figure out what was safe/appropriate to buy. And finally, another possible issue is "iPhone Scale". Apple makes so dag-gone many of these devices that any switchover is going to take some time with sourcing and whatnot. That said, I still think they should have switched over to back with the iPhone X, because I'm sure a lot of issues with USB-C would have been smoothed over by Apple getting onboard with it. Eh well.

Would really like to know if anybody else has seen these notifications with their APP2, stating to "Replace the battery"? I get these on my Mac from the FindMy app when either the case or the ear buds reach low charge.

My hypothesis is that FindMy needs updating to reflect that the APP2 now have the U1 chip, and that the battery isn't replaceable. I suspect that it's treating it like an AirTag, where the battery would require replacing.

I've contacted Apple Support and spoken to several reps who all suggest that I replace the AirPods within my 14-day window, but the battery seems to work fine and I don't want to return it unless absolutely necessary. A technical team rep lodged a bug report and agreed it seemed like a FindMy update was needed.

Would really appreciate to hear whether anybody else thinks this is a bug, or if I should replace the AirPods.

Thanks

Frankly, I do not share the apparent obsession that many have for USB-C. Especially for AirPods, which do not need a faster data connection. I have many more lightning cables that USB-C, and it is not a problem for me. Besides, AirPods Pro 2 also charge by MagSafe, Apple Watch charger, and regular wireless charging. In addition, I find the lightning connection to be easier to use (even in the dark when listening in bed) and more durable in general that USB-C.

When Apple switches the connection to USB-C, that will be fine with me (although a lot of of perfectly good lightning cables will have to be recycled.)
Yes I don't care either way, but I can see the point of people who do transfers either wanting faster lightning or USB-C. And at least USB-C already exists. Such a pain when Lightning first came out how long some manufacturers took to make lightning versions of accessories.

Besides being very active, I also have freak ears that Apple airpods refuse to stay in. My favorite wireless in ear phones are the Power Beat Pros That hook around the ears. Love them. The battery lasts forever & they have actual physical buttons to pause/skip & lower/raise the volume. I really hope they aren’t discontinued, because they’re the only ones that are compatible with my aforementioned freak ears. 😂 👂

I get it, it’s about size right? Why stay with a small plug when there are BIGGER ones out there! 😂

IMHO try replacing them, if the problem persists then wait for Apple to fix it… 🤷

Absolutely love my OG airpods pros. When I heard about these upgrades, I had to have them. Unfortunately, they won't deliver to where I am deployed. So having my wife get them at our house and ship them to me. Will take some time, but cant wait to hear the upgrades. These are the perfect workout headphones IMO.
