I’m seeing a sudden surge in pairing failures with authentic replacement AirPods Pro 2nd Gen buds. In the last two weeks, I've had 10+ units fail to sync with buyer cases.

Constant flashing amber light when both are in the case. Even after a 1-hour charge and a 15-second hard reset (flashing white), they won't initiate the 'Set Up' pop-up. I suspect a firmware version mismatch between the older replacement stock and the new 8B30/8B34 updates. Has anyone found a way to force a firmware update on a single bud when it won't pair to a case, or is there a new specific reset sequence for iOS 26.2?

Usually, the 'leave them in the case for 30 minutes on a charger' trick works to sync firmware, but lately, that's resulting in 0% success. Are we looking at a new Apple security lockout for 'married' parts, or is the firmware gap between 7B and 8B just too wide for the case to bridge? Looking for any insights or anyone who has successfully paired a replacement in the last 14 days.

i had similar with airpod pro 2 after losing one . phone call to apple the rep said you can purchase a single replacement in store.
in store they basically said make sure iphone is connected to wireless insert replacement airpod in case with original airpod , then reset and wait an hour then follow setup screen and setup as new , setup pairing screen will appear on iPhone .

did all that perhaps 30 times in the end , , ,tried all the internet suggestions i found but in the end returned to store a few days later and watched the rep experience the same frustration . they were then sent to apple service after a month of waiting i called and they were not able to pair them , firmware mismatch they gave me a new pair without tips ! and matched to original purchased case . service guy quoted when purchasing a single airpod replacement the store should check the box of the replacement for firmware revision it’s printed on the label if it does not match then it will be problematic and unlikely to work as a pair . thats all the info he gave .

not much help but this was december 2024 so it’s not a recent change just guess you need a bit of luck and patience and a few beers or whatever your liquid is to keep calm

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It is very helpful to hear that even the Apple Genius Bar and service reps were hitting the same wall. Your point about the firmware revision being printed on the box label is a game-changer—it confirms my suspicion that the 'Firmware Wall' is a hardware-level mismatch that the software just isn't bridging anymore.

I'm currently trying to develop a 'pre-shipment' testing protocol to save my customers this headache, so knowing that even the pros are resorting to checking physical box labels is incredibly validating. Cheers for the insight (and the tip about the liquid requirement, lol, I'm definitely going to need it)! I have some much is stock, and I'm scared of selling them due to all the returns I've gotten within the last few weeks. Loss of sales and shipping.
