I had an order in the books for first day delivery as my original ones both started the crackling issue. Then I went to Apple and got both exchanged, canceled the Gen 2 order and hold on to the replacements a while more.

How on earth do you propose they make the tiny earbud batteries user replaceable?
I know this is a stretch here, but AirPods 1 and 2 had a stem battery. If they thicken the stem just a bit on the pro and relocate the battery to the stem they could probably keep a similar form factor and the force touch stem. Thread the stem and then the battery can be swapped out.

Wow lanyard clip. That’s super practical. Eventually these giant cam iPhones will probably have a more textured surface and a kickstand built right in.

Seems pretty great, but I cannot justify it with my 2.5 year old original airpod pros working flawlessly. (Honestly might be the best apple product I’ve ever had, and I’ve had most of them.)

The charging leads has been my biggest gripe. I lost count the number of times I’ve inserted an AirPod only to find its dead. I resorted to using a small flat tip jeweler’s screwdriver and a piece of alcohol wipe to clean it, but I have to do that every few months.
Not just that, but one it starts to oxidize, you can't fully clean it in that tight spot.
Not to mention that with every cleaning, you push the pin a bit inside and it ends up having less contact with the ear bud.
😥

Apple really needs to address this eventually for a disposable expensive product.

The second-generation AirPods Pro get up to six hours of listening time with Active Noise Cancellation enabled, which is two and a half hours longer than the original AirPods Pro.
@samifathi this is incorrect. The original AirPods Pro had 4.5 hours of battery life with Active Noise Cancellation. The new ones have six hours. 6 - 4.5 = 1.5 hours longer battery life, not 2.5. Thanks.

Gotta say, I am perfectly happy with my Beats Fit Pros. They only thing I would remotely envy at this point would be the lanyard attachment for the case, the BFP case is a slippery little bugger, especially on airplanes...

All I want are AirPods with a way to replace the batteries. Having to throw away a device that functions absolutely fine except for the battery every 3-4 years is horrible for the environment and expensive.
If there was a way that the stem/battery could be a separate piece, that screwed into the the earpiece, I would think that would be a partial solution. Or a way to eject the battery from the bottom of the stem with a tool, like with a SIM card, and then slide another replacement battery in? Way above my engineering knowledge! :)

i noticed the changed on my APM, audio is much richer and clearer vocals.
Thank you. I was prompted to do it with my Beats Fit Pro, I did, and I swear it sounded better - but I was also worried it was a placebo effect and that I was losing my mind a bit. Glad it isn’t just me.

Ditto. For now, purchasing AppleCare+ for $29 is the equivalent of getting a 1-time user replaceable battery.

How about actually allowing to be heard by the other party while having a call on the street using a 3rd party app like WhatsApp?. Everyone complains they can hear me when I call using WhatsApp and I am using my AirPods Pro. They don’t pick my voice well and amplify the external noise. TERRIBLE for calls while on the exterior.

Same. Would be awesome if the stem was the battery and it could be easily replaced by simply untwisting/unscrewing it [the stem] from the main upper body which would house all the electronics (like how the Beats Fit Pro is) and then twist/screw on a new battery stem. 🤷‍♂️

You don't have to throw your AirPods out.

Apple will replace the headphone batteries for $49 per side, and the case battery for $49.

I want to know how calling someone is on the new devices. This is absolutely the worst experience with the current gen, basically being unusable for anything other than calling in a noise free environment. In these post COVID times, this must be a priority!
This was fixed with the iOS 16 update (along with a AirPods Pro firmware update). The noise cancelling is much better. My friends and I have noticed this in even noisy NYC streets.

Thie iOS 16 update with the AirPod Pros firmware update has fixed this, at least for iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro Max as has been confirmed by me and friends even in noisy places like NYC Manhattan streets.

Another important change not noted is that the top air vent that always gets clogged and needs clearing has again been improved to be smaller (and perhaps set farther back from the earpiece) to help to prevent clogging. The clogging is responsible for breaking the ANC and for poor base response. There are numerous (39 pages I think) in MacRumors about these problems and attempts to clean them. You can see the differences by inspecting pictures of the APP 1 vs. APP2.

Apple will battery service AirPods Pro for $49?

I have to call this out. The environment argument is misinformation.

Apple will take back any of its devices (that you would otherwise throw away) and recycle them.

There is absolutely no reason any Apple device should ever wind up in landfill.

You don't have to throw your AirPods out.

Apple will replace the headphone batteries for $49 per side, and the case battery for $49.

The AirPods themselves aren't serviceable, they aren't replacing the battery, but replacing the whole unit. The AirPod may then be recycled - however how much is actually recycled is not known, and it is an energy intensive process.

There is no debate here, a replaceable battery is much better for the environment than replacing a dead AirPod with a brand new unit while also having to recycle the old one.

I hope one day Apple be able to make their louder than 85db sound protection as quick as 0.02 seconds while keeping all the quiet sounds enhanced in higher volume like many others today, like GSX 2.0 Earbuds.
Then you be able to shoot with them as well as keep listening to music and hearing everything around.
For now, I believe their noise suppression is much slower to engage.

Well they’re just giving you new units, not really replacing the batteries. I guess $147 for new everything is a little better than just buying new ones, but with gen 2 out, you could probably get gen 1s for close to that anyway.
