I'd be much more in favor of improved battery life for the case and the AirPods themselves.

The AirPods themselves get decent battery life, but the case does not get anywhere near the battery life Apple claims. Apple says the case should be able to fully recharge AirPods 4 times. I find it can charge them maybe twice before the case drains. The case drains a lot even when not charging the AirPods.

The second-generation AirPods Pro are widely expected to launch in the second half of this year. In preparation for the launch, Apple's suppliers are getting ready for shipments of the new high-end AirPods, according to a new report from DigiTimes.

The new second-generation AirPods Pro are widely expected to feature a new design, improved audio, the ability to play back Apple Music lossless audio, and more. The new AirPods Pro are scheduled to launch this year — specifically in the second half of 2022. Ahead of the release, today's report said that suppliers are beginning to prepare for shipments of the new wireless earphones.

The latest information about the new AirPods Pro comes from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who recently reported they would feature a redesigned charging case that can emit an audible noise for use with Find My. With Find My integration, only AirPods themselves emit a sound when pinged by a user. With the new AirPods Pro, the case will have a speaker, allowing for a louder noise, making it easier to find.

MacRumors had previously received pictures depicting what a tipster claimed to be the case for the upcoming AirPods Pro. Those pictures show speaker holes and possible accessory attachments in the case itself. MacRumors cannot verify the accuracy of the images, but they do fall in line with new information shared by credible analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Alongside a new case, the new AirPods Pro will also support playback of lossless Apple Music audio. Due to limitations in Bluetooth bandwidth, none of Apple's existing AirPods models can playback lossless audio from Apple Music. In a recent interview, an executive for the company admitted that the limitations of Bluetooth are hindering the potential of the AirPods experience and said the team wants "more bandwidth" than what Bluetooth alone can provide.

I really hope they don’t look like that

Hoping for a smaller design/better fit (I know that’s subjective). I returned my Pros in the first week because they hurt my ears after 20 minutes or so. In contrast, I wear my standard AirPods for hours and often forget I’m wearing them. But I would love that noise cancellation…

I was going to get the current Air Pod Pros but am happy to wait it out and see what updated version brings to the table.

I look forward to the new lossless AirPods Pro 2. New iMac-type colours would be good for AirPods.

It appears Apple is setting-up a perfect storm. Apple Music has "lossless" and "Hi-Res Lossless" and people are going to want to hear it with AirPods Pro 2 and most likely AirPods Max 2.

Wasn’t going to wait late this year and got my wife a pair of the current pros for her birthday- she loves them for her work meetings, etc. and for workouts.

If they support lossless then they may be the first AirPods worth owning. I’ll buy ‘em.

Ultra Wide Band could be the new wireless transmission standard Apple uses...Good video below...

iPhones since the 11 have the U1 (Ultra Wide Band) chip, so many current iPhone owners could make use of it.

Sounds good in theory...

  • Up to 675Mbps bandwidth
  • Up to 10x less battery use than Bluetooth
  • Less interference due to using different spectrum frequencies than typical devices
  • Lower latency than Bluetooth
  • Better security than Bluetooth
  • Better wireless range than Bluetooth

I recently lucked out with my launch AirPods Pro. They started exhibiting that crackle issue on left AirPod, took it in and their diagnostic said the right one had it too (Id not noticed). Got brand new replacements for both :)

I had the same thing happen and got a brand new pair.

I just took a 5 for flight. My AirPods were unable to make it without taking a breather in the charging case. Whatever Apple does in adding new tech, 8-10 hours of minimum use time should be part of it.

Agreed, find my for AirPods (any variety) is useless.
Mostly because they have no speaker on the case but also because they wont play any noise or be trackable unless the case is open or airpods are out and still have juice. really dumb oversight. Apple used to thing stuff through but it kinds seems like they've just been mailing it in the last few years with software and little (albeit important) stuff like this.
