I also noticed the worse ANC, as I'm on buses all the time it's disappointing change (I *want* to get rid of droning low frequency engine noises). However still generally good, only had one time when one ear had a fit of dropouts.

So it wasn't me that I can hear my garage door 100x more now. When I first got them the garage door was basically silent. It's still quiet but I can definitely hear them now.

I too noticed the change, which I thought was odd but in a good way. In particular, an issue I have had with the AirPod Pros is that when I run with noise cancelling on (with the mixed in world sounds for safety), I get a whooshing or thumping sound. I assume this is to do with moving fast enough, creating some wind noise and that being too quick for the ANC to keep up. It's not all the time, so it might have to do with where I am running. But I ran a marathon with them yesterday, and I thought that I didn't even notice the issue! Of course, I probably didn't realize that ANC was worse and that's why.

And I thought it was a fix.

Fooled me!

Thanks MacRumors for the investigation and info.

After the latest update, I definitely noticed the negative effects. In particular, I couldn't pass the seal test under virtually any circumstances, and the audio was definitely impacted. I took them into Apple, they replaced with a new pair last week, and everything has been good since. I'm glad that there is a more widespread acknowledgement, now.

I got my AirPods Pro as a Christmas gift. When I first paired them they sounded great and the cancellation was perfect. Then later the next day I was using them more and noticed the noise cancellation wasn’t as good, especially in the left one. I tried different sized tips and nothing worked. I then put the left in the right ear and the right in the left, flipping them upside down. The left one still had issues and the right one was still perfect, even in different ears. So it’s not my ears. I also swapped tips between sides and it’s not the tips.

It’s really annoying when noise is only leaking in one side. I keep feeling like it’s not in all the way or something. I tried texting Apple about it and when I didn’t respond immediately they forgot everything I was talking about which defeats the purpose of their new text messaging support system. I’ll need to call them soon. I think it might be this update being pushed out that night when they were charging and not being used. Either that or a hardware issue but I remember them being fine that evening and I used them for a couple hours after everyone went to bed.

Has anyone on 2C54 tried the fittings/seal quality test? Before I would constantly get 'Good Seal'. After 2C54 I no longer do.

EDIT: Just noticed 'Dorfmac' posted the same observation!

Apple isn’t really saying anything at this point. One person on Apple Discussion stated they asked them to please wait for the next update- but you know how that is... a lot of them are uninformed, or search a database or may be unable to share information as of yet on what’s going on.

That’s because there’s nothing for them to acknowledge publicly. All that matters, is how quickly they can generate a release update to patch the issue(s).

Noticed earlier today as I was biking to work. I heard way more wind noise than usual. Just checked what update I’m on and sure enough I got the damn recalled update.

I know this sounds crazy, but suck hard on the inner grill. Me and a lot of others are having that issue and discussing it in another thread and many people have seen the issue temporarily fixed by doing that and/or cleaning the grill with loctite or similar wall tack. We initially thought it was software-related too until someone discovered that.

After the update I had so much trouble that I returned mine. I could never get them to pass the fit test with any of the three earplugs and I couldn't tell the difference between the ANC and passthrough modes. This just makes me angry.

This happened to me the other day- I noticed as I was trying to get the best seal and reduce wind noise a couple weeks ago. After getting off my bike I switched from the large to medium tips and noticed that one ear sounded timy and far. I reset the AirPods and same thing.
Turns out that a small Amount of sweat got on the earbuds paper holder and made a thin layer of paper material get stuck to the mesh. I used a paper clip to remove the stuck paper but damaged the mesh in the process. :/ it’s all good though it sounds normal now.

The firmware didn’t cause that. See my previous comment.

I haven’t even worn this pair while sweating or in rain (3rd from Apple/Genius now) and it still came back. After my last replacement I decided to do a fit test almost every day and any time pressure felt uneven. I lasted 3 weeks (made sure they updated to 2C54 firmware when I got them and obviously still the same firmware).

Fit test ran fine every day for 3 weeks then suddenly the right started failing. It seems to mostly affect the right AirPod from what I’ve seen. After sucking on the inner mesh grill the pressure felt even again between both ears and the fit test passed.

This is definitely a hardware issue. I usually have to do it again every 3 days or so which sucks. I’ll probably return them again at some point but I’m trying to wait and hear if any positive news comes out about it.

Oddly, post-update, I actually get the fit test more reliably than before. Previously, I had issues getting my left ear to show as good fit. Now it does every time. Not sure though if this is casualty or coincidence.

I let a friend try mine and they laughed and said it didn't work. I laughed back and told him they don't work if you don't put them in your ear. They aren't q-tips. Jam them in there.
