I would love black too. I used flesh colored nail polish to paint both pair of mine to make them less noticeable in public. I have SHS and wear mine all the time. (Excuse the ugly face in the picture;)
That is awesome! I am happy to read how they work out for you and make your life better. Cheers!

Wow, I never seen anyone do that before. I would think airpods are so ubiquitous having it in your ear would be unnoticeable by most people - though if it works for you, more power to you

The AirPods are an amazing product. Shame they don’t play nice with my Windows laptop.

Majority of people are used to the fake bass sound coming from beats, soundbars and portable speakers and they don't accept anything else; if it's not there, it sounds flat (like all bookshelf speakers).

Maybe it was true 10-15 years ago but everyone makes them white for a very long time.
If you see short stemmed, white buds with black ovals on them, it doesn’t matter who made them. It’s an AirPod. Doesn’t matter if it’s a clone or the original, it’s a free ad for Apple.

So this means that customers don’t get a choice of colors like all other products on earth for the benifit of Apple and its shareholders.

Yes.
?
That’s nothing new though. And I don’t say it’s right, I too would love more than one color, but this is just how the Apple gets bitten.
White, later also silver, have always been signature colors for Apple. Silver MacBooks, white accessories, titanium grey watch, white/silver and black/grey as the the only colors to never be missing for iPhones.
All in the name of recognition and branding.
That’s also why their designs are so praised and copied, they practically have (or had in some cases) the most simple and low key looks possible. Ten years ago, had you asked anyone to draw a phone, it would have been an iPhone from whenever. Rectangular screen, forehead, chin, and a round home button. Als in a frame with probably round edges. That’s every iPhone from 2007 to 2016. MacBooks are very basic, the Apple Watch looks very simple, AirPods (Pro imo) with their case just look, finished, almost.
They made it this way, and now they are riding their own wave.
Let’s see if the shore is near this year.

Every generation of AirPods Apple starts with excellent NC, then slowly starts to kill it with firmware “updates” until they are almost useless. The new generation will be as good as the 2nd gen in the beginning, then slowly will be updated to be worthless and sell the 4th and so on
Are you stating this as fact? That the firmware updates degrade the ANC?

I suggest you go check your AirPods settings — "ear detection", "automatic connection", etc... — I’ve handled several pairs, and they’ve always been blazing fast to connect.
Ear detection is enabled by default on my devices. That is not the issue. The AirPods are clean and have been replaced twice for failures.

It will be VERY interesting to see if they change the driver design with the AirPods Pro 3. They need new drivers to better compete with something like the WF-1000XM5.

I travel to Asia 4-5 times a year and live transcribe could be a lifesaver. If it works. And that is a big “IF”.

What doesn’t play nice with the windows laptop? Just pair them once, then they should automatically connect to your PC when you put them on. The auto switching feature doesn’t work the best, but you can just click the little Bluetooth button on the toolbar and select your AirPods and they’ll switch to your PC from your phone. I use mine most the time for music on my phone, but I also use them for video calls on my computer and it works great

It takes about 1 minute to reconnect them after I’ve switched them to my iPhone.
