This feature is still coming, however it won't be supported at launch. It'll be added in with a later software update. Yet another feature that Apple's team is pretending to have before it's ready to seem relevant in the AI craze.

AirPods Pro 3 have been in mass production for a few months now and will be releasing next month.
Why would that feature require new AirPods? Doesn’t the phone do the work?

In the last years, audio equipment has made huge advancements thanks to Adaptive EQ, Spatial Audio, and the like. That’s especially true for headphones.

AirPods today are a totally different beast than the standard iPod earphones from 2008, say.

Apart from that, I have had AirPods Pro since their release and battery life was never an issue – for years now. That’s not bad for an accessory like headphones. You know how many headphones are being thrown away every day because they are meant for one-time use? That’s crazy!

Well… there have been advancements but *I think* the ones you’ve identified are software advancements and not so much audio equipment… maybe. Or maybe it’s the hardware, speaker drivers, joined with the software, spatial/atmos that has been the advancement. The previous 50 years of speaker drivers, I think, work just fine with an atmos receiver.

Perhaps compared to 2008 iPod earbuds with the addition of microphones, accelerometers, and onboard chips, some headphones today personalize EQ, cancel noise, and apply spatialization on board, which is an equipment new software can use to enhance audio as it reaches your brain.

My concern with the AirPods Pro is that they are not built to last. However, it was also pointed out to me that AirPod Battery Replacement is available. And that certainly solves part of the landfill issue if I can salvage my current set.

Do the batteries need to be glued? I’ll let Apple and iFixIt debate
