Still using Pro 1’s and I took extreme care of them but they are hanging on by a thread. Infamous microphone boosting frequencies 15k and up making calls for the receiver actually hurtful to their ears. Battery life is a joke, left earbud is good for 50mins with ANC off. Speaking of, ANC doesn’t even work without permeating the sound of a mad hungry static beast that feeds off your the damage it does to your ear drum.
I can only use my AirPods in transparency mode. The other two modes will play the call to arms for the static beast mentioned earlier. I can’t imagine how additional features not related to sound in anyway could make this more desirable. Another case of Apple fixing something that isn’t broken but also not fixing something that is broken.
Queue “hey siri” if you don’t believe me.
Apple has said themselves that their products are considered obsolete after 7 years. That may be true for iPhones and computers but for AirPods the life expectancy should be lowered to 3-4 years and that’s being generous.
I would like to see them implement some sort of exchange program similarly offered with iPads/iPhones etc. That would encourage consumers to stay within the Apple ecosystem for their audio needs as well. The incentive to repeatedly buy a product that is prone to defects is very low without such a program in place. True audiophiles will go above and beyond to get their basic needs met. All of the rumored newer features is just lipstick on a pig until those main issues are addressed.
