Really what I would like to see is prices lowered for something that as far as I know doesn’t last most people past 4-5 years. The AirPod 4 ANC should be $130 with no non anc option, and the pros should be no more than $200. That’s reasonable enough for the consumer, and Apple is still making lots of margin im sure off either.

I had AirPods Pro 1 and AirPods 3 and could never really stand in-ear earphones.
They fell when I walked even though I tried all of the ear tips.
The ANC didn't work on my ears, I don't know why, they don't have a particular shape AFAIK.
So I much preferred AirPods 3.

I bought AirPods 4 with ANC and I really love them. They're comfortable, the case is smaller, and the ANC works.
I mean the ANC is not THAT good, but it does remove some external noise and I do appreciate that.

AirPods Pro Gen 1 here and I’m waiting (impatiently). Gen 3 will be a big upgrade for me. Better battery life always appreciated, smaller and lighter would also be good. Definiite day 1 buy for me.

I only use ear buds to listen to music so the only thing I care about is sound quality for music. I wish they offered a set of Pro's that left out the other stuff and was strictly for the best possible music listening.

I wish it would alert you when the case isn't charging one of the pods.
This has been basically our (my wife and I) only issue with our APP and APP2s. Hers in particular love to fail to charge the left pod, but mine just did it yesterday. Glad I noticed and it was fixed by just jiggling it this time... It would be great if it was easier to tell when this happens, because it drives my wife nuts and ruins her enjoyment of her AirPods when she goes to exercise and discovers in that moment that they haven't charged. No music for this workout, huge bummer!

I believe the H2 is fabbed on TSMC N7.

So one easy way to substantially improve ANC and battery life is to fab H3 on a newer process. Obviously N3E would be ideal, if they think the cost is worth it.

My hot take for an APP3 feature is built-in compass. The gyros are great for head tracking, but don’t seem to be accurate enough to remember absolute position. As such, Spatial Audio reverts to a centered position after a few seconds of keeping your head still. The IR sensors could do the same, and I think that’s a reason they’re being rumored. Further, the IR’s could achieve something similar to the audio ray tracing from Vision Pro. Wouldn’t be able to guess materials in room, but could get dimensions.

Lossless Audio and longer battery life are the 2 I would look for, otherwise no rush to upgrade for me.
The lossless on Vision Pro / APP2USBC is great, but unfortunately there’s not a lot known on how it works or what its limitations are. I agree these are huge considerations.

When they talk about redesigning the case, I get nervous. I really like the AirPod cases (Max excluded...)-- it fits in that otherwise useless change pocket in my jeans making it a no brainer to have these with me everywhere I go.

APP2 will be hard to beat.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I'm just not interested in health features for AirPods. But I appreciate it on the watch.
I guess it depends on whether the health features benefit you. I just bought the AirPodPro 2 for the hearing test and aid features. I am hard of hearing and good hearing aids cost up to 5K. So I am interested in the profile I get from the test and how it works to improve my hearing. Also since Amazon did a sale for $169 it was a good deal. Obviously the new features are coming out in a few months but it will be good to get some feedback.

I hope Apple really improves the microphone quality. AirPods are great for listening, but when speaking to someone else a lot of the time it’s MUCH worse than the iPhones microphone.

Even if they did something drastic like having a detachable microphone that would put it closer to the users mouth would be appreciated.

Hope they can catch up to Sony when it comes to noise cancellation and sound quality, right now I am using my WF-1000XM5 instead of my AirPods Pro 2 just because of the sound quality. Wish iOS had LDAC support though…

I have the 2nd gen Pro and I probably won't upgrade until the battery or the headphones drop dead. I don't see the need to release a new version of headphones every year with minimal cosmetic or internal changes.

What was announced last month isn't a new AirPods Max iteration though. They're not being billed as AirPods Max 2. They updated the existing APMs with USB-C and new colors, just like how Apple updated the AirPods Pro 2 last year with USB-C. Even on Apple's website in the AirPods section, where AirPods 4 are labeled "New" the AirPods Max are just labeled "New Colors."

I agree the APMs should be updated with new chips, acoustics, and connectivity (ie: high-res lossless), but the article's original point is still valid: Apple makes significant changes each formal iteration of AirPods.
