The AirPods Pro 3 use an Acoustic Seal Test to check the fit of ear tips, according to a new Apple support document. Apple says that the Acoustic Seal Test will ensure that you're using the proper ear tip size for the best sound quality and noise cancellation.

The AirPods Pro 1 and the AirPods Pro 2 have an Ear Tip Fit Test, but Apple updated the process for the AirPods Pro 3. Apple suggests starting with the medium size ear tip. If you can't achieve a good seal, switch to the larger tip. If the ear tip feels too large, switch to a smaller tip.

Apple designed new foam-infused silicone ear tips for the AirPods Pro 3, which it says are softer and less stiff than the AirPods Pro 2 ear tips. AirPods Pro 3 ear tips come in five sizes, including XXS, XS, S, M, and L. XXS is new for this generation.

For heart rate sensing, the AirPods Pro 3 need skin contact. Apple warns that the best ear tip size for heart rate sensor accuracy could differ from the best size for acoustic seal. The AirPods Pro 3 should be positioned toward your face at a 45-degree angle, with the heart rate sensor resting against the ear.

If heart rate recordings seem inconsistent, Apple recommends trying a different ear tip size.

The Acoustic Seal Test can be initiated by connecting the AirPods Pro 3 to an iPhone with iOS 26 or an iPad with iPadOS 26, going to the AirPods Settings, and selecting the Acoustic Seal Test option.

The AirPods Pro 3 will launch this Friday.

Hmm. Very tempted to try these after I had to return the original AirPod Pros when one kept falling out of one ear.

They're absolute idiots. "Gotta take off my music tips and put my heart-rate tips on". I wish they just made these without the dumb HR sensor because it's obviously adding to the cost.
because you think they would have lowered the price of the airpods pro 3 otherwise? lol. price would have remained the same . at least we're getting more features

Has anyone confirmed if the foam tips are compatible with the APP2s?
As another commenter said afterwards that they aren’t… it sucks because it seems like AirPods Pro 2 could have benefited from it as part of the benefits are confirmed to come from the “infused foam” tips.
Maybe aftermarket ones?

In any case, my AirPods Pro 2 have been so great on a daily all sorts of activities basis… work, exercising, commuting. Might jump to the new ones as is

Getting this right on my AirPod pro 2’s is so frustrating. I can consistently get my right ear to seal just fine but my left ear vexes me all the time. I’ve tried tips from several different places. Most recently Azla (didn’t work very well for me) and I have a set of Comply memory foam tips coming today. Hoping for better results there.

Love my pods man, but they seem to be a lot of work to get them right in my wonky ears.

Edit. After fiddling with with the Azla tips I got them to work well. It was as simple as just shoving the pod in my ear instead of twisting it and all. Good sound and seal.

Maybe now people will finally realize Apple isn’t slowly making ANC worse, it’s the damn ear tips that misshapen over time. Occam’s razor and all that 🫠
Nah updates have definitely affected ANC. For about 1.5 years I primarily used my APP2 with a Samsung and 2 Apple TV's. There was a big degrade in ANC after I connected it to my iPad to update earlier this year. I even bought the wax cleaning kit and memory foam tips to try to restore it back to what it once was with no luck.

I was happy to see the inclusion of heart rate sensor, so this makes me sad to see. I feel the seal, while a clever idea, is over engineered. Or the heart rate monitor was an afterthought, slapped ontop of a design that wasn't open for more add-ons.

It seems Apple has designed themselves into an acoustic seal corner.
