Ive been using Shure IEM's for years, so I know that things will be slightly different with these, but still, here's my experience.

I have had these less than a week. From first opening I noticed that the join in the AirPods is quite exaggerated, so I don't know if this is a concern?

Both the M and L pass the fit test, I personally don't know which is best for me but I have been trying both. They don't go as far into the ear as the foams that I am used to, but this is fine and I understand it, its less tiring and I am hoping that I will get used to it. The convenience is a plus.

Its the noise cancelation that I am having the most trouble with. It is definitely doing something, but not a lot. If I am walking outside I can hear the traffic or even a plane fly overhead. - With it off there is a LOT of background noise, its different to Transparency, its just like a constant background fuller fuzz, and in a way louder audio than with noise cancelation on.

Does this seem right?

If the airpods serial number shows up in settings and find my then its legit. Apple does have a replacement program for some defective units, so contacting them with the serial number might help.

I am also very unimpressed by the noise cancellation on the AirPods Pro. It's barely noticeable. My main complaint with the original AirPods, aside from poor fit, is how much external noise can be heard. I would say the APP benefit more from being in-ear than their active noise cancellation.

Yours sound faulty too, check out reviews for their noise cancellation abilities, it is excellent.

Just make sure you twist them a few times as you insert them into your ears. They need to be in as far as possible so you get that seal.

From my experience the noise cancellation on the airpods pro are excellent and sound is great. I was amazed by how the noisy Apple store suddenly felt so calm when I tried it out during launch. If anyone feels otherwise its probably an issue with the fit or some defective unit which apple is anyway replacing for free.

Here is the gap that I mentioned. It might just be the light... but this was from first opening them. Its all around the seam.

Go with Ralfi's advice. A good seal makes all the difference in the world with both sound quality and nose cancellation. I also went back and forth between Apple tips and I can get a good fit but struggle to keep it. I am looking at after market tips to help.

I can recommend the Comply foam tips. Apparently I have funny ear canals and the AirpodsPro are the first in ears that have ever worked (meaning do not fall out as soon as I blink), and with the Comply tips they are even better... By the way - I'm also slightly underwhelmed by the noise cancelling but it doesn't really matter to me...

How long do these last?

I used foam tips for my Shures, these I find get old quite fast.

2nd the comply tip recommendation. It made a HUGE improvement in sound isolation, anc, and sound quality. I have been daily using my first set of tips for about 2 months and no wear issues yet. They won’t last forever though, but I have two more pairs (3 pairs in set).

How do I do this. No stores open here still. Will it all have to be done online and through post?
