In the last two days my AirPods Pro have begun constantly connecting to my iPhone even when they are enclosed in their case and plugged in for charging. My iPhone is constantly alerting me (via the pill-like notification at the top of the screen) that my AirPods have connected – again this is when my AirPods are closed in their case.

My Apple TV is also showing me that my AirPods are available for connecting constantly.

I've unpaired my AirPods from my iPhone to try to fix this, but no dice.

Any thoughts?

I have the same issues and a strong feeling it might be related to that new feature where you can look for your AirPods through find my app and have them play a sound while still in the case.

Have you had them replaced?

Cheers!

Yep this is happening with me too. I have both AirPods Pro and AirPods 2, and even when they're in their charging case and closed, I sometimes randomly get the notification either on my MBP, my iPhone, iPad or if I'm on Apple TV, that it's available to be connected. Pretty annoying. Not sure what triggered this (maybe one of the new iOS updates)... A minor nuisance but annoying.

Same thing has been happening this past week. Especially if I’m plugged into car play, my AirPods (closed and in my bag) will suddenly connect resulting in pausing the music being played in the car. Super annoying but of course I’ve been swamped and don’t think about it until it happens. Perhaps repairing will help? I’m going to try that tonight.

For me this is a major issue - I receive work calls and the call will suddenly jump to my APP in their case. Started happening a month ago - case replaced but no difference.

You say you have unpaired them but have you still reset them.

Unpair them again, then reset them.

To reset the place both AirPods in the case, with the lid open press the button on the back of the case for about 20 to 30 secs. You will see the white charging light pulse, keep the button pressed until you see 2 / 3 pulses of orange, then close the lid of the case.

Once this is does you will be able to repair the AirPods as though there where brand new.

It does seem to be a software bug, which really is right pain pain in the a$$. It does cause the occasional inconvenience.

Went to the store today and had both AirPods replaced, not the case though. Let’s see if that solves the issue.

They also asked me to keep ear detection turned on and see if the issue persists. So far I haven’t had any further trouble. Will turn ear detection off today and hope the AirPods won’t start randomly connecting again.

It could be down to Bluetooth interference.

That’s highly unlikely (i think) since the AirPods turn off and begin to charge while placed in the case. Any connection is only established once you open the case.

Also: I have no other Bluetooth enabled devices turned on while this happens.

The Airpods connecting and disconnecting to my Apple TV even though they are in the case was once of the worst experiences I have been through watching Apple TV.
The constant problem connecting to my iPhone when I get a call is very easy to live with to compare.

Went to the Apple Store, guy said it couldn’t be the case. Took it backstage for 20 min and said he had run a sound test twice which came back negative. Replaced both AirPods (not the case) and told me to keep ear detection turned on (always have it turned off) and see if the problem persists.

Kept ear detection on…no issues.
Turned ear detection back off…still no issues.

Good luck.

After I turned ear detection off the issues returned. Very frustrating.

APP case and Airpods themselves replaced.

APP reset as per Apple instructions.

Running iOS 14.8.1 on iPhone 8, no iCloud - the problem remains.

It's SW/FW.

I am having the same issue, called Apple Support twice about it. Seeing a lot of reports of this elsewhere online. The advisor i spoke with said they are aware, Apple is aware, and a software update should fix it. In the meantime, there is no solution that works for me. Frustrating!

Turning ear detection on does it for me, but I would prefer to have it turned off.

message states AirPods connected then ...disconnected when near the tv but since it seems to be just a message, I don't pay it any mind and it will stop after awhile.

Just sayin...

Same issue here. So much so that eventually the battery in both the AirPods and case run down to zero (I keep the case in my car’s center console). Then, when I go to use them, they’re at zero battery which is frustrating in the extreme. Makes me wish for the simplicity/reliability of the old “pre-courage” wired connection…
