I just purchased airpods pro for my mac mini and need to update the firmware. I really don't need or want to buy an ios device just to update airpods firmware. Please advise, thanks.

What do you want to know? & with firmware needs updating?

& why don’t you want to update the firmware? Security improvements, added features & product support longevity are what make IOS updates great.

I don't think it's possible to update them using a Mac. Perhaps you have an Apple Store you can visit, I'm sure they can help you? Otherwise I guess you need to find someone that will lend you an iPhone to use for the upgrade :)

Need to know how to upgrade my air pods pro using my mac mini. Going to the apple store or finding an iPhone or ipod user is not acceptable.

Wanting to avoid a public place like the store is understandable in these times.

The only way for you to update them would be to pair them with a trusted partner/relative/friend/colleague/neighbour's iPhone and put it on charge beside it.

You can't. Updating the firmware requires an iOS device.
Senior Apple Technicians say it is possible, all you need to do is continue using them on the Mac with the case connected to the Mac usb port and it will evidently update automatically without an ios device. In the last couple of days, the About Mac Report shows no changes to my send latest firmware.
