Last week, Taiwanese industry publication DigiTimes made a passing reference to upcoming "AirPod Pro Lite" earphones without offering any details on the product, leading to confusion about whether this would be a third-generation version of the regular AirPods or a new member of the AirPods Pro family.

While we still don't have a full picture of what to expect with these upcoming earphones, DigiTimes today published another short paywalled blurb specifically describing AirPods Pro Lite as an "entry-level version of Apple's AirPods Pro series" and saying that production will not kick off in the second quarter of this year as originally planned.
Production of the AirPods Pro Lite, an entry-level version of Apple's AirPods Pro series, is unlikely to kick off in the second quarter as originally planned, according to industry sources.
We haven't heard any specific rumors about these AirPods Pro Lite earphones, or updates to the AirPods and AirPods Pro. The AirPods Pro were just released in October, so we're not expecting an update for some time yet, while the second-generation AirPods are coming up on a year old in March.

We'll update this article with any additional details once DigiTimes expands its blurb into a full story.

My guess is that they will become the new regular AirPods with the AirPods Pro design but with less features. The AirPods pro name is extremely stupid

I doubt it, there's still people that prefer the classic Airpod design over in-ear airpods. I think this home rumor is just referring to 3rd gen airpods, no airpods pro lite or whatsoever. It doesn't make sense.

If this report is true, a possible outcome of this could be an AirPods 3 with the design of the AirPods Pro, the IPX4 water resistance rating, but no ANC? However, I just feel like Apple will keep the classic AirPods design for the next generation.

When Apple removes the lighting port altogether from its iPhone devices this will be the entry level earbuds that users will be able to buy for their phones.

"This just in, Apple to release a new product that really doesn't seem to make sense but we won't provide any details as to what it really entails."

A few days later... "that thing we made up a few days ago, yeah that won't be coming out any time soon."

How convenient. Sounds like DigiTimes is just inflating the number of articles so their paywall customers think they are getting something out of the deal.

Apple must have an otaku working in the marketing dept. Only an anime nut could come up with such a ridiculous name. We hear/read stuff like Satan Miracle Ultra Super Megaton Punch (Dragonball Z) and Spiraling Flash Super Round Dance Howl Style Three (Naruto) in anime/manga all the time.:p

I think AirPods Pro Light will be the current AirPods non-Pro with the same design but with noise canceling technology. No smaller format, force sensor, sweat/water resistance and they could maybe cost like the current AirPods with wireless charging case. Or considered how much they are selling, they could even have the format of the Pros and just miss some of the features.
