I've been searching for a decent answer on this and coming up empty. I'm trying to figure out the audio latency when using the APPM in usb-c mode. Nobody has seemed to measure this, just a few anecdotes of people saying it's OK. The upcoming 2nd gen is supposedly even better?

I'd like to be able to play guitar through my DAW with low latency in noisy environments, like outside at a busy park. IF the APPM has sub-10ms latency in ANC mode wired that would be great.

Take a peek at this: https://www.bonedo.de/artikel/apple-airpods-max-3d-audio-und-niedrige-latenzen-fuer-musiker/

Edit: I think this ist not the information we are looking for. While I am not familiar with Ableton, but the latency displayed is from the software and not the latency from the electronics in the AirPods Max. So no help.

Nevertheless, I am not sure that you will achieve a sub-10ms latency even with analog headphones, as DAWs inherently introduce additional latency. The only way to achieve this is by connecting your input of the audio interface directly to your headphone output. And maybe some processing if you habe a DSP in the audio interface.

@DaniTheFox thanks for the article, it doesn't seem to list any measurements but they sound optimistic for music monitoring.

you can easily achieve sub-10ms with a wired setup. I currently get 2.3ms roundtrip latency using an RME interface on an M1 Pro

12ms, which is very good for this type of device, because of the active NC involved. The Bose Quite comfort ultra is like 35ms (wired), which is much worse, also do to NC.

The trade off is latency for NC. 12ms is a lot considering it's zero for regular over-the-ear or an IE which can really isolate.

Considering how heavy the Maxes are, and how light an IE is... But you get the real bass (if that's a thing) with the larger speaker, where an IE can't go
