I’m planning to buy the AirPods 2 from Apple but have a couple questions on whether the AitPods Pro may be better or not….

Firstly, I know the AirPods fit my ears because I have tried my son’s AirPods for size so they fit fine. I haven’t tried the AirPods Pro but this is my issue : I recently bought a different brand of ‘in ear’ earbuds and these have the obligatory rubber tips which go into the ear canal however this is where my issues started….

I wore these buds for just 2 days but I was experiencing this strange sensation in my ear canals whereby they seemed to throb or pulsate which sealed and unsealed the enclosure which the tips made inside my ears (it’s a little difficult to explain actually!!)?! So one second the sound was totally contained inside my ear (it sounded like the music was being heard centrally in my head) but then the next, the ear canal seemed like it opened slightly so that I could hear the outside sounds more prominently (the buds did not offer Active Noise Cancellation). It was definitely a weird sensation….

So I’m now wondering whether the AIrPods Pro will do the same exact thing as they also have the rubber tips that go inside the ear canal. Should I just go for the AirPods 2 (maybe I have weird ears!!!) ?

I can’t answer your question, but I just got AirPods pro and I’ve been wondering if I should have just got AirPods 2. All I want is music, mainly when exercising. The pros don’t stay sealed for noise cancellation when I’m working out, and Turns out I’m happy without it. I only ever use noise cancellation when I fly and my on-ear headset with wired plug-in to the plane’s entertainment system works fine for that. Haven’t tried the APP on a flight yet though, I might change my mind. But the thread talking about all the ways these things can lose seal or noise cancellation over time has me wondering if I made the right purchase for me. I don’t think I really need in-ear buds, but I’m still evaluating. Marvellous devices though.

I think you may just have to try them out to see. I normally HATE earphones that you insert into the ear canal, and I delayed purchasing the AirPods pro because of that. But my work environment is so loud, I really wanted to test out the noise cancellation, so I figured I could always return them if they didn’t work out.

Three days in, and they seem fine! Yes, they’re a little more snug than I normally like, but the noise cancellation more than makes up for it. Also, I’m using the smaller tips, which also helps.

....when they are inserted into the ear canal, do they not move around when you talk or open and close your mouth (eating for instance) as these motions naturally cause the ear canal to open and close slightly thus losing the seal?

This is the issue I had with my other cheaper in ear earbuds.....

This happened to me on my left ear. It would loosen up when I was talking and actually fall out. Went with the large tips and still happened, just less frequently. Also, because of the movement, it noticed the quality of the sound would change based on how good of a "seal" the pods achieved. Therefore, I had to fiddle with them a fair bit to make sure they were always pressed in properly.

Never had a problem with the regular earpods and now the airpods 2nd gen. Must have weird anatomy.

This is what prevents me from getting the Pros because I use my AirPods 2 mostly when jogging. I sweat a LOT... so I imagine the Pros wouldn't work with me. But several people I know have gotten the Pros and seem to like them (and they're runners while I'm a waddling jogger).
