Hello all,

I have the AirPods paired with my iPhone7. I want to love them, but have had too many issues with inconsistency. I've deleted and re-paired, but still have the same 2 issues. I was hoping someone could help.

1. When I double tap to initiate Siri, 90% of the time Siri responds on my iPhone speaker as opposed to the AirPods. I can actually watch the phone, and there is a significant pause when double tapped. Then, the headphone icon goes away, and Siri asks how it can help me through the iPhone7 Speaker. If I ignore, the headphone icon comes back and they work as normal for phone calls and music, etc. I've tried everything to fix this. If I put both AirPods in the case, then take them out, it will usually work correctly once. Then, after that, it does it incorrectly and plays through the iPhone Speaker.

2. Occasionally when on a call, I lose all audio in the AirPods. I can't hear anyone and they can't hear me. The call remains active, and still shows the audio going through the AirPods. I change to iPhone or Speaker in the audio options in the active call, and I am able to continue the call. If I select AirPods again for that call, no audio. Once the call ends, I won't experience it the next call.

I can't find any resolution. They seem to work well outside of those two issues. Any advice? Do I have a defective pair of AirPods?

I understand that this thread is a few months old, but I am having the EXACT same issue. ncboilermaker, was a resolution ever found? Thank you!

Unfortunately, no. It seems to have gotten better with iOS 11, but still happens. Apple has replaced my phone, AirPods, and the actual case for them....but none have resolved the issue. I've got to believe it has something to do with the fact that sometimes the AirPods are in close proximity to my phone, iPad, watch, and MacBook Pro - all of which they automatically synch with.

I'd be interested to hear if you make any progress.

For ncboilermaker and others having a similar problem... After returning the AirPods for a new pair and experiencing the exact same problem, I followed the advice from other threads to disable bluetooth in the Tile app. With bluetooth in Tile disabled, the problem hasn't happened once since (over 2 weeks).
