Yeah think i'm sticking with wired headphones for a bit is anyone else worried about having an antenna that close to your skull

Normally, I'm against the glue/solder everything to within an inch of it's life. In the case of the AirPods, I think it was the best move made by Apple. The water resistance of these things is... well, pretty damn incredible. Imo, the glue is a functional part of the AirPods. I don't even like BT headphones and like the look of the AirPods even less. They're ugly as sin to me. But the construction is supremely impressive. Hat Tip to 9to5Mac. Here's what I'm rambling about:

My favourite part is the repairability score. I think it has escaped them that the electronic components and skilled labour required to repair an airpod would easily exceed the cost of the replacement bud.

What they're suggesting here is like trying to repair an IC: you don't repair it, you replace it.

And, if they do cause an issue it's highly likely to manifest itself during the first 12 months and Apple will just swap any faulty ones out, so it's not something to be overly concerned about :)

Issue is : after the 12 months is up, Apple will demand that the customer pays for production quality.

And who wants to hear componentry rattling around? For the volume of the airpod's internal cavity the best choice is an adhesive glue selected for its acoustic properties. iFixit seems to think that glue is some poorly planned, lazy choice - it's actually the best way to achieve this size design.

It's something I think about - but when I look around me I see all kinds of transmitters bathing me in beams of uncertainty: In my office dangling above my head there's a WIFI transmitter. At home i have my router in the living room next to the TV I watch every night. There are cell towers all over the place - In some NYC buildings they're even attached to the sides of the building with apartments directly behind them. My cellphone is safely tucked into my pants pocket right next to the family jewels. Basically we're screwed! despite our efforts to avoid the beams of modern radio waves.

They're just screwing themselves by gluing everything down, no? I can't see basically anyone trying to repair their own AirPods...
I have microscopic screwdrivers and a scanning electron microscope, so I can fix mine. Do you really think that these would be fixable by Apple or anyone else? If a problem develops, they would be replaced. So stop worrying about the glue and move on with your life.

Wireless charging is a misnomer. The charging platform is always plugged in, so you're just substituting one form of plug for another.
Really? So the act of fumbling around trying to connect a tiny connector is nothing?

I agree with the other poster: its coming and lets hope is of the Energous variety!

But then people wouldn't have anything to complain about and the press would have to find another negative headline, Phil.

Better to gesticulate wildly on half-facts!

Or, it might just be a bit of voiding that often occurs with BGA connections and there is a lot of debate about whether it's even an issue to worry about unless excessive

if we encounter charging problem with the first batch we know it may be due to the "egg" charging case and its chip's solder joints issues. Something to be aware of. And Apple being Apple i'm sure they'll replace for free (which is why i'm a huge Apple fan).
They'll probably claim you dropped them and therefore you are responsible. Then they'll have a replacement plan for $80

Yup. Given all the other sources of electromagnetic radiation that bathe us everyday, these tiny little airpods could be the tipping point that will result in the immediate formation of a glioblastoma.

Would love to go back 50 years ago and stay there even though it would mean losing most of my technology.
I guess it depends on your perspective. I'm Black. My wife is White. 50 years ago we would have still been a year away from our marriage actually being legal in the US. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand I just brought the mood of the room down.:( Apologies. Personally, I'd love to live 50 years into the future. By then we'll have robot helper monkeys and a new Mac Pro.:p:D Mood elevated.

So what happens here after 2-3 years when the lithium battery starts to go? You just throw away your € 170 costing ear buds? This whole throw-away thing is spinning out of control.

If this exactly same product was made by someone else, people would call it crazy. But hey, it is an Apple product!
Take in billions a year in revenue, tax avoidance (allegedly) , sell products at extortionate prices, expect criticism!

:)

Yes, throw them away and use the earpods :)
