Seriously? Are they really gonna call everything Ultra now just to make them more expensive?
Like the rumoured "MacBook Ultra" with OLED screen even thought they should have put OLED in Pro MacBooks? I still hope this whole "MacBook Ultra" thing is a BS, there's really no reason for them to not put an OLED screen in current MacBook Pro.
it’s the Tim special. Instead of a price increase they introduce a new category. They did it with the iPhone X, iPad Pro, Apple Watch Ultra and they will do it again with the iPhone 20. Pro is now the middle tier.

So once again instead of just giving their line a great update, they call that update a new name, jack up the price, and everyone else can keep buying the old stuff at regular price. So tired of this. The old apple went from iPad to iPad 2, a tremenouds update in every single way, and didt call it a new name and jack up the price. But ever since the iPad air pulled that off, they have run the same grift ever since.

It's literally the Tim Cook playbook, which is why so many of us are ELATED for some change at the top.

What will it result in?
Who knows ... but it was time for some kind of change.

Maybe at some point, visual intelligence is going to be a must have and we will all be glad that we have IR cameras in our AirPods.

But I have a hard time imagining that this will be useful.

Haven’t we reached a point that the world is teched out enough? It’ll be a rarity before long to experience the real, natural world as it is instead of some artificial manipulation or intrusion involved. I’ve been noticing with the youth that there’s pushbacks in many ways taking place…back to corded, analog headphones, physical media instead of digital, etc.

There’s still hope for this world

MR, it really wouldn't hurt to put the word "infrared" before the word "cameras" the first time you use it in this story. Or the second. But I guess having a bunch of OMG AirPods with cameras! posts is good for traffic. At least it's a better headline than the last half dozen times you've posted a similar story!
Please leave it in their forum feedback section. Although MR staff never opined (or even acknowledged) this when I brought it up, there is strength in numbers...

On the one hand we're reading rumors here, so it's not exactly surprising we get the what but not the why. But like the rest of you, I also struggle to imagine what use-cases cameras could possibly unlock. Even if they do gestures I'm not I see what that can brings. Joined with AR glasses they maybe could form part of a sensor suite to track hands? 🤷 To... project a virtual keyboard in my vision? But I'm super-reaching for anything that might one day intersect what's possible and what's valuable. It's certainly unclear currently.

If they keep selling the “Pro” model, they could fit whatever they want on the “Ultra”
If true, Apple is really confident/hopeful that someone would pay even ONE extra dollar for anything SIRI-related.
