Hi i am new to macs and that is why i am here!

My question is my room mate has a G4 and a powerbook and she is trying to get her lap top to the internet BUT when you open us safari it is a comcast page that is telling us to install the "comcast installer" software but we do not have that!

do i really need the installer?

OK i found the exact problem that i am having at this link:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mathowie/43358091/

"If you plug in a new cable modem to a comcast line and start a web browser, any address gets mapped to this setup page.

If you notice the download button, it maps to http:\\cdn/ComcastInstaller.hqx, in other words, it maps to a non-existent URL. You can't access any other URLs so you're stuck here. "

what can i do?

No, you do not need the installer. It's probably for Mac OS 9 anyway, which DID require an installer to use Comcast's service.

I encountered this issue with Time Warner, when I installed a new modem. What you have to do is call them, explain your situation, and give them the relevant numbers so they can activate your modem. Once that's done the install page will go away.
