If this update is only updating the apps used to manage the AirPorts (+ the AirPort Disk Agent), I'm surprised anyone's noticed any change in the actual performance of their wireless network.

It's not like the actual AirPorts are being updated, correct?

I think the Airport in the Mac is, but not the base stations.

AFAIK, this update makes no changes to the Airport Extreme itself, just the Admin tools and the Disk agent.

I hadn't heard about the VPN problems. I use a CheckPoint VPN client (ipsec) through it OK, and my roommate uses whatever the default VPN method Windows systems use to VPN and it works OK too.

Still can't get access my hard drive connected to the latest version of the Airport Extreme, I can view it in the Aiport disk utility but when I try and access it I always get a 'Connection Failed' username/password etc incorrect pop up.

Been a waste of money so far as this was the main reason I bought the thing...!

what a silly update - only works if you have the admin 5.0 - which is not available unless you have the new base station. I wish they could have been a little clearer with this. Instead, wasted my time looking for this 5.0 admin prog.

you can extract the program from archive.pax.gz if you show package contents. works fine for me after that.

Sounds like a bad patch then. You should just have to install it and that is all. This is not linux where we mix and match patches.
The update requires that you already have the new AirPort Utilities installed. If you do, it runs fine.

andrewkendall's instructions showed how to force the update to run on systems that didn't meet that prerequisite.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with the update.

So how would you do that? I found archive.pax.gz but when i open it i just get archive.pax, which can't be opened. Any help would be appreciated.

Oops, NVM. I just found the files hiding from me in a different folder. :D
