So when do you think Apple will update its Airport Express to 802.11ac wifi? It was last updated in June 2012.

I would like to see it updated, at least to a dual antenna (866Mbps) 802.11ac router, if not full speed 802.11ac.

The Extreme could be updated as well, with the latest generation 802.11ac chipsets, antenna optimizations, and USB 3.0.

I was hoping they'd update the routers, but sadly no announcement. When would the next opportunity to announce those devices be? With the next iMac? Back to school? I thought the Apple TV portion of the last keynote would have been the perfect time to announce it... guess not.

June is usually the month that these get updated. But it's not yearly as we already see. Also they are not talked about in Keynotes. The updates just happen quietly after a big announcement of other products.

I am also waiting for an update to the Airport extreme to happen hopefully this year. It has been a long time now.
