i need a straight answer because i am going to buy an airport express or apple tv.
i need one of those just to listen music to my hifi from iphone. dont care about video.
i know i can stream music from my iphone or ipad to airport extreme (connected to hifi) with music app.
but i need to know if its possible to stream audio only from youtube app.
i dont care about the video. i just need the audio to listen.
is it possible with airport express? or only with ATV?
also i dont want an extra app like airfoil.
and also i dont mean inside safari or chrome. i mean inside main youtube app.

you're talking about from iOS? then yes you can stream any audio on your iOS device to an airport express or :apple:TV.

if you aren't going to hook it to a television set, i would not get the :apple:TV, also the aTV only has HDMI and an optical tos-link port, if your hi-fi doesn't have these, you need the express as you can get a cable to goes to the red and white RCA plugs.

you can not stream music to the extreme.

airfoil is a Mac or PC program,
you can also stream whole system audio to an aTV or express, if you have mountain lion or newer on your mac.

i dont own a mac. i have a AVR with optical. i also have LCD with 3 HDMI.
yes if its for ATV, it will be connected with my AVR with optical. and also with my tv with hdmi.
    the idea is.
i am lying in my couch pick up my iphone open youtube app to play a song or a concert. i want this audio to be played in my AVR.
AE can do it? or there will be no airplay icon in youtube app?

There should be an audio-only AirPlay icon, because AE registers itself as audio-only AirPlay target.

since youtube is audio on your iOS device, it is covered by my statement "any audio on your iOS device"
