Currenty have a home network setup using a Telus modem and a Airport Extreme. Works great. Trying to extend my network and in doing so obtained a Airport Express. When I powered up my Express for the first time; my Airport Utility recognized it; message said "preparing" but a error message popped up stating " Unknown Error occurred"; it then shut down. This happens everytime I power on the Express. Is there a setting in Extreme that has to be changed. I am not hard wired; I am going wireless.

Make sure the Telus modem is in bridge or gateway mode (assuming it's a router not a modem).

Factory reset both AEBS & APE

Connect Modem -> AEBS WAN
AEBS GigE to APE WAN. Use Ethernet cables for the initial setup, it'll adjust when the cable is removed (dashed line instead of solid)

PS you're going to take a >50% loss in WiFi speed without the cable.

Begin with a factory reset of the Express. Then you should be able to reconfigure in AirPort Utility.
