I was just about to buy an Airport Extreme when I stumbled upon a review of one. It said that one of the cons was that when connected to a USB hard drive, you could only transfer files of up to 1GB at a time. I've done some googling and found conflicting statements regarding this.

As this would be my main purpose for the Airport Extreme, this would be a big issue. Can anyone confirm whether this is true and that only files of less than 1GB can be transfered over the network.

    Thanks in advance.

any one? I was in the apple store today and they said they've not heard of this (but the woman i asked seemed about as useful as a paper umbrella. she was trying for ages to find the ethernet port on my retina Macbook pro...)

I just set up a 3TB external HDD for my parents. They move movies onto the drive all the time and it's often 4-10GB each.

Personally I use a NAS, but for most home users, the AE drive works fine.
